Please help.. Chance me and I will chance you back!

I go to a private catholic high school in Nebraska. During this school year my student advisor had us pick our top 7 colleges we would like to go to so my top 7 are
1.) LSU (Louisiana State University)
2.) TCU (Texas Christian University)
3.) UFL (University of Florida)
4.) Ohio State
5.) Texas A&M
6.) SLU (Southeastern Louisiana University)
7.) UNL (University of Nebraska, Lincoln)

In my freshman year of high school I really screwed up. I didn't really try and I got C's and D's. This year during first semester I was able to manage to catch up to my work and pull B's and C's which is still not great I know I can do better. This upcoming semester I plan to work alot harder and get A's and B's the rest of my high school career. Also during 1st semester of this year I got a 21 on my PLAN Test (Pre ACT) which added up to me averaging a 22-26 on my actual ACT. I plan to take the ACT next year. If I can keep my grades up the rest of my time at my current school do I still have chances of getting into LSU or TCU? LSU is my first choice since its my dream school. I've always planned on going to LSU since I was about 12 but now I just don't know since I screwed up. I'm paying for my mistakes I've made last year but I am proud of myself because I was in the bottom 10% of my class but was able to pull myself up to the top 30% of my class which is a big milestone for me. I know I can probably get a letter of recommendation from my student advisor and the dean of students at my school. I do work study for her and she always says I am a reliable and trust worthy person.

My extracirricular activities are the yearbook committee and Track last year. I had to quit Track this year due to medical issues where I had to take medicines that make me dehydrated quicker (sucks but it is what it is). I also do alot of community service because of mandatory hours that are required for school but I usually do more than the required amount would they look into that?

Any opinions would be great! Don't be shy to tell me your honest opinions I won't get offended lol. I just want any feedback that could help make me a better student and an applicant they would like to pick!

Please comment I really need help to show what my possible options are so please just take the time to maybe see what you could do to help! I tried posting once and I didnt get much feedback ):

buuummpppp.

Hmm, I think that you have a shot at LSU, not neccessarilly a great one. It would really help me if you calculated your GPA on a 4.0 scale. A=4, B=3, etcetera.

Figure out your GPA bc. I believe that LSU requires a minimum 3.0.
Also, those PLAN tests are totally bogus. They give people ranges like 25-35, it’s ridiculous.

For the ACT, aim for the high 20’s. LSU’s ACT percentiles are 23/ 28 meaning the 25th percentile is 23 and the 75th is 28. So your ACT won’t hurt you, I don’t think. But if you get above the 75th percentile, you can have that “make up” for the rest of your application, although not entirely.

Your grades seem to me like an upward trend which is something that helps a bit, shows that you are improving.

I strongly suggest joining more clubs because they can make up for your grades.
Gaining a leadership role there would help you tremendously.

You seem like a sophomore/jr…? so you have plenty of time to help you chances.
I suggest

 1. Join an EC, aim for a leadership role
 2. Do well on ACT’s aim for 28 and up.
 3. Keep grades as high as possible.

Check if LSU has a 3.0 admission requirement. That means a B average which would mean having to get A’s to offset your earlier grades. Figure out your GPA.
Top 30% isn’t too shabby, but you have plenty of time to improve and show an upward trend.

I think that you have a shot at LSU, esp. if you do what I mentioned earlier. I can’t really give you a “chance” percentage unless I see your ACT and GPA though.

Chance me, please?

Also, your GPA may end up being the deciding factor, moreso than EC’s and ACT’s. Your ACT’s will probably end up being good for LSU, but it’s your GPA that could stop you from getting in.

If you want more info, check out about dot com’s college profiles, they have ACT data, tuition info and (for some) average GPA of most of the other schools on your list.

I’m only a sophomore this year but I will definately take your advice.

If you give me the link to your question I will happily answer your questions I can’t find it on the forum.
