I am way late in still debating over colleges, but with my stats, can anyone suggest some safety schools for me?

Planning on applying to:
WashU
USC
Boston U
Home state? SAT/ACT scores? How much can your family afford? In need of FA or merit? Intended major?
As said above, it depends what your SATs are an intended major. However, if you like Boston U (east coast, urban school), you will probably also like GWU, which should be easier for to get into than BU and is test optional. Northeastern is similarly ranked to BU, but other options could be American U, Syracuse, Fordham or Depaul.
For Southern California, smaller SoCal schools that you may want to check out is Pepperdine, Chapman, Scripps, Occidental, Loyola Marymount, U San Diego (the Catholic one not the UC).
For WashU, that is tougher as it is a very high ranked school. Similar but also high ranked national Unis could be Rice, and/or Emory, Vanderbilt, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Penn, etc.
Again, it all depends on what you want to study and what you can pay.
I have ACT 35 composite and am waiting on SAT IIs in Bio and Math II.
I’ll most likely be retaking them in November. I am mostly interested in Biomedical Engineering/Computer Science, but there is a small chance of applying undecided as paranoia catches up!
Home state is Ohio, and family cannot afford much at all;'40,000$ per year annual income with a family of 4.
I am primarily looking for urban/large Or medium schools.
Thank you so much fir your responses, I really appreciate the willingness to help out in this CC community:’)

Are your parents self-employed? Do they have a business?
Do you have a non-custodial parent?
So have your parents said that they can’t pay anything towards college?
Are you a NMSF?
Are you applying to:
Ohio State
Miami Ohio
UDayton
Safeties have to be affordable.
Why would you apply undecided?
I will say that applying biomedE limits you for merit or FA opportunities, because fewer schools have that major, and it’s an undergrad major that isn’t necessary. The BiomedE grad programs also accept MechE, ChemE and other E majors as well.
you should apply to schools where you will be happiest. not with the “best” ranking.
my favorite all around school is muhlenberg college
http://muhlenberg.edu
but other schools for undergrad butler university and bradley university too.
Case Western may not be a safety but your stats should get generous merit. Marquette university. Check out their scholarship page.
You should definitely apply to Ohio State - very strong engineering, and should be very affordable with financial aid. Tuition/fees/room/board/books is around $25,000 a year for in-state… the average financial aid package according to their website is around $15,000… and you probably would get above average financial aid… so you potentially could be paying less than $5000 per year total. Frankly, this is an outstanding deal for a great school, safety or otherwise.
You need to apply by November 1 for consideration of merit aid; they also strongly recommend engineering students apply by November 1 because after that, they only admit on a space-available basis.
I would also def apply to Case Western – very highly respected in STEM and you could get some good merit aid.
You should also apply to some Ivy schools and similar for reaches… the financial aid will be fantastic…
Consider applying to a few of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Penn, Columbia, Stanford, MIT, Washington U, Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Rice and Carnegie Mellon (no, don’t apply to them all, maybe pick 4-6 tops based on personal preference… but if you get into one of these, you will probably go for nearly free because they meet full need).
Boston U is very expensive and has historically been relatively stingy with financial aid.
The student is OOS for Penn State and for Florida. He wouldn’t get the aid he needed at either school.
UMich can be generous. The student is instate for tOSU, so it might be affordable with merit, need based aid, and any state and fed aid.
Again, thank you so much for your help! It’s so helpful and refreshing to get your input and feedback because I am pretty much on my own for college application/research (school district shares one college counselor between multiple schools and parents cannot as much as they would like to).
Anyways, I am applying to OSU, am strongly considering UMichigan, and am re-looking at BostonU due to their difficult financial aid (thanks @harvardandberkeley, @mom2collegekids, @HariboGoldBear ).
My mother works part time and father works one full time job; no single parents, just low income due to the nature of their jobs.
I am a commended scholar for NMSQT, so I am not expecting much from there. I will concentrate on local scholarships Instead.
As for my major- even though I really am interested in BiomedicalE, I am not sure if I have explored enough to commit to that major yet. Even if all of my schools are offering BioME as majors, would it really be difficult to look for merit scholarships / FA with it?
Thank you so much, I really have been researching all of your suggestions all day today; please let me know if there would be more you can think of; I am really grateful!
What do you plan on doing with BiomedE? It’s one of those few E disciplines that pretty much needs a grad degree.
Biomed E limits you MUCH MORE than CS.
Based on your stats and income, I would apply to the “superaid” schools. Not all of them, but quite a few. Essentially, if you got in, you’d be going for free save for your summer job’s contribution and work study, and probably no loans.
You should definitely apply to Columbia’s SEAS (“FU School of Engineering and Applied Sciences”). It’s slightly easier than the regular college, it’s still Columbia, New York City, and full ride if you can get in.
Yales has been trying to boost its School of Engineering and has pledged to admit more students with income under 65K and/or first gen. Another potential full ride.
Olin offers BioEngineering as part of their “Engineering/self designed” major, as well as MechE and Computer Engineering. They’re project-based and very generous with financial aid. Half their class is female.
You should really apply to all three.
You should also definitely apply to Case Western and, perhaps URochester.
If your family’s income is 40K, ditch BU, its financial aid policy is really bad for people at your income level.
As far as safeties: Miami Ohio, tOSU, Pitt (apply with the “full” application for the Honors college)
