I am a 4.0 student on my third semester in community college. I am ready to start looking at places to transfer, and during my research this weekend I found out that when you apply to any college you MUST send ALL transcripts NO MATTER WHAT.
When I applied to this school I’m at now, a family member and PhD prof at the local university told me to leave off my year stint at a state university I attended (flunked out two semesters) because it “didn’t count” seeing as I received no financial aid (I paid out of pocket 100%) and received no credits. I trust this person as I have my whole life so I literally did not put it on the application thinking “it doesn’t count.”
Now I am learning for the first time that if you do this you can easily get expelled or have your degree taken away any number of years after you graduate if they find out. Obviously, if I had known it was so serious when I did the application, I would have just put it on there and taken my chances. But like I said, not to shift the blame from myself for not researching, I blindly trusted this family member. I think they are from a time when this was less of a big deal. I don’t know.
So I looked up the academic honesty agreement for my college online. The one you have to sign when submitting your application. The exact word they use is “MAY.” As in, you MAY get your acceptance responded if we find out you lied.
Another obvious thing, im going to come clean to my Dean ASAP and explain my side of things. I know I can get kicked out and I take responsibility for everything. But I would rather know if I’m going to be expelled now, than a year from now when they find out on their own and I owe even more money.
Like I said I have a cumulative 4.0 and have been working with the Dean on an organization plan for a community outreach club. I had no idea I was in jeopardy or that I was jeopardizing the schools integrity the whole time.
Do I have any chance of avoiding expulsion? Will they kick me out for sure?
