The thing is, I don't know how to say this on my app, but I basically was raised by a nut for a mother. She called police on me, my sisters, my dad 3 times for no reason and she was warned everytime for calling them. She pretty much beat the **** out of me when I was small and cursed at me everyday until my junior year of high school, which probably drastically affected my grades. A little odd, but I guess you could say a note. I never could study cause we had 6 dogs, 5 cats, 20+ birds until she moved out. Strange thing tho is my counselor recommended my weird life.

Sisters went to:
Binghamton University (currently law school in Dayton)
Rochester Institute of Technology

-worked 3 months for a food store before I quit on my own terms

Father: Hofstra University and a jurisdoctor in law at Tauro Law

What colleges at all please? I have no clue. I only applied two places only because they were free applications and that's St. John's University and University of Hartford. I got offered a scholarship and honors programs for both but they aren't the best schools for academics or so I'm told.

That's pretty much the lower end of the spectrum on this board, everyone here seems to be 1400 SAT guys with A+ GPAs and a ton of extracurriculars but I'd still like to know if I have a shot at any good Schools.

Counselor recommended: Brown+Cornell cause apparently I have 10% chances to both, Colgate 20% chance apparently, NY Binghamton, NY Buffalo, NY Stony Brook, Bucknell, Trinity, Tulane

any other schools I have a 50+% of getting into?
any GOOD schools that I have at least a 20% chance?

Thanks for any help thats given

maybe geneseo? it's smaller than the SUNY University centers that you are looking at, so might be more nurturing and has a great reputation. Good luck!

It would help if you could give us a bit more information about what you are looking for - do you want small, medium, large? Urban, surburban, rural OK? Do you want to stay in the northeast? What are you interested in studying? Do you want a more liberal student body or a more conservative one or something in the middle, etc.

I'm shooting in the dark because I don't have more information, but you might take a look at Boston U, Rutgers, Syracuse U, U of Rochester for larger schools and Dickinson, Lafayette, Muhlenberg, Union, Wheaton College (the one in Mass), Goucher College, and Skidmore for smaller schools. I think you'd have a decent shot at all of these schools.

You could check out nazareth, St. John Fisher, Elmira, Siena. These would probably be at least 50% chance for you.

I don't understand why your SAT's are estimated if you are a senior with 3 sittings. If you got into St. John's in Anapolis or New Mexico, you should consider that a real coup. I think that is a very fine school and perfect for your background. You will be mentored and have strong working relationships with caring faculty. I think the program is breathtaking and daring. It is attracts very wacky outside-the-box-ppl, I'm told. I personally find that attractive. You will get a very broad education that will allow you to go into any of the fields you mention.

The application is free but they don't have an honors program, so I might be talking about the wrong school here.

Also, don't panic and stress so much. Just pick a nice mix of safties, match, match, reach and a super reach or two if you have time.

Bettina, I suspect he was talking about St. John's University in Queens, NY. I also wondered about the estimated scores but I decided that maybe those were his pre-test estimations. I made some suggestions based on a high score of 1300+

I have my actual scores listed, but in the parenthesis, those were my pre-estimates.

anyone else pleaseeee

maybe Franklin & Marshall or Allegheny College

I suggest you research the common app schools because you have no time to waste doign a bunch of different apps.

Lots of good suggestions above for schhols and many are common app schools.

Good luck. A nutty mom is a hard thing for a kid.

Don't know how you feel about large schools, but I think applying to the better state schools in NY and maybe Rutgers, Syracuse U or Fordham might be avenues for you. You appear to need a school that offers a large scope of classes, since you haven't decided. These universities are in the target for your SAT's, and offer all of the areas you've mentioned as possibilities. I wouldn't think a smaller school is your best choice, for that reason. And these larger schools would give you the breadth to find your niche. You strike me as a student/person who has a lot of promise, you just haven't found the right arena that will really get your attention. Once you find it, I'm betting you'll be off and running. Good luck.

There are so many schools in the country that what you need to do is go on collegeboard.com or petersons.com and do one of those college match things(they are free) and see what schools show up and meet your needs. Your scores are not bad. I think you have a good change wherever you apply. Your reaches will be top 30 on US. But other schools should be low reaches or matches. The question is where in the country do you want to be in, and what do you want to study.

Boston University could be a match.
