Please help I have been trying to get answer but everyone just keeps telling maybe.

Ok Im a junior in high school and i REALLY want to UGA ( university of GA) and its the 2nd semester and as it stands i have a 3.1 GPA. I plan to apply regular admission next yr fall. Is it possible to pull my gpa up to a 3.5 or 3.4 year nxt yr.? I have taken ton of ap classes and in 1 honor club, track ,cross country, international club, mu alpha theta, spanish club, and key club, etc. I haven't taken my SAT/ACT yet im take it in may. i have a 85.067 cumulative grade percent average is it possible as well to pull that up to a 90? Any one sum advice for me?

Have you tried figuring this out with a gpa calculator?

http://gpacalculator.org/

You’re five semesters into an eight-semester HS career and you’ve got a GPA of 85. You want a 90 average after 8 semesters. 8 x 90 = 720. So far, you’re at 5 x 85 = 425, so your last 3 semesters will need to total 295. That would take an average of 98.3 - not too likely.

Let’s try it with your 3.1 and aim for a 3.4 after eight semesters. Your target is 8 x 3.4 = 27.2. So far, you’re at 5 x 3.1 = 15.5, so your last 3 semesters will need to total 11.7. That would take an average of 3.9. An eight-semester average of 3.5 would require a 4.0 from here on out.

Yeah i have tried gpa calculator it gives me 3.7 or 3.6. And thanks !

Ok so ur saying wat that the highest i can aim for is wat, a 3.5 ? and wat bout summer classes to achieve my goal, which is grad high school wit honors and get into UGA? And thanks 4 ur help!

The extra summer would be what, a couple or three courses? That’s a drop in the bucket in terms of balancing out four years worth of class grades. The average HS GPA at UGA is 3.8, but if you were to get straight As over the next two semesters, that would probably make a good impression. And if you can get SAT scores well above the median of 1230, that would certainly help too.

However, UGA has 28,000 undergraduates. I have the impression that schools that large can’t be very holistic in their assessments of thousands and thousands of applicants - they have to lean pretty heavily on SAT and GPA.

Ok so my only real hope nw is to make straight A’s for nxt 3 semesters and REALLY GooD SAT scores? And the best thing for me to do is to apply regular addimission right?

And how many summer classes would i have to take if i decided to go that route?

Are you instate?

couple of points –

1) at the time you apply to UGA, you won’t benefit from your 8th semester grades. Just 1-6, or 1-7 if they evaluate your application AFTER 7th semester is complete.

2) I don’t know how UGA looks at apps, but most schools will see a rise in grades in 5th, 6th, and 7th semesters as a great indicator of future performance.

yea im instate

I applied EA for UGA but got deferred. If you are able to pull your GPA up and be able to get a REALLY good SAT score (I’d say above 2000+) then you should give it a shot by applying EA.

Also with your GPA, you should try recalculating it with the UGA system. The way they reweigh your grade is that A/A-=4, B/B+/B-= 3, C/C+/C- = 2. For every AP course you add 0.5 credit to it. So for example if you have a B in AP Lang (just an example), you would do 3+0.5.
