PLEASE HELP! I'm super stressed! Did I destroy my chances of getting into USC?

Hi! So I’m freaking out here because I made a huge mistake on my resume. I’m in the top 10% (which I put) but I accidently also put that I am ranked 1/total number of people in my school.

The mistake was because I had made the resume for teacher recs and at the time everyone was saying that the system was changed and everyone in the top 10% was ranked #1. Everyone initially thought this because the transcripts didn’t say yet that it had been switched to deciles. However, I had corrected it but didn’t realize I saved it under a new name and printed the wrong one.

Also, I didn’t write a thank you note for the interview until after she wrote me one. I didn’t know it was expected. I sent the note however as if I had not recieved her note. I feel so screwed.

I have always worked so hard (2150 cumulative sat from 2 sittings- which is what usc looks- and 4.25 weighted gpa for 10-12 and 3.87 nonweighted and all the classes were either honor or ap classes so I definitely took challenging courses) and I am so sad that I probably ruined my chances at my top school. What should I do?

Okay, first of all, BREATHE.

Please clarify here: was the ranking mistake made on your RESUME, or your APPLICATION? If it’s the former, it won’t hurt you. If it’s the latter, I would contact the college asap to correct it. (but check with you counselor first)

You’re not screwed. The thank-you note is generally advised, but as long as you sent it, you’ll be fine. Make sure you do shoot her a quick email to thank her for her card as well.

Good luck!
