PLEASE HELP! Is an essay supposed to have something directed towards....

Is an essay supposed to have something directed towards the university/reader? For example, are you supposed to throw in, at the end (for example), something like "It is for these reasons that I feel I would contribute to your university just as much as your university would benefit me." Of course that is just the crappiest and quickest way that I could throw something together just for the sake of illustration, lol.

Or do you just leave it with an insightful comment about whatever you wrote your essay on?

I know that you could do either -- but let's be honest here, you could also write the words to Mary Had a Little Lamb (my point being that you're not going to). So which one is generally preferred at the top schools in the US?

P.S. If it makes a difference, my essay was about one particular event that I overcame.

THANK YOU!

well u shouldnt say stuff like that instead you should imply it..i hope you get what i am saying.from what i read about essays, instead of saying for this reason..bla bla..you should imply it by whateva means cos it just might sound deaperate..good luk..wonder why people arent answering this post cos it makes a lot of sense..
