I am struggling with choosing which college to go. I am intended to study things related to Business like accounting. I narrowed my admitted school lists to: CWM, UCLA, and WFU. William and Mary has a great undergraduate education, but its undergraduate biz programs seems not so well known. UCLA is great for its location and popularity, but if i go there I cannot acquire necessary personal attention from professors. As for Wake Forest, the location where it lies seems not so good for transportation and internship though biz school is great as well as the accounting major.

So, anyone can give me any useful advice to choose from the above three schools.

WFU has one of the best accounting programs in the country. Be aware that if you major in accounting there you have to do a combined BS in Accounting/MS in Accounting (five years). I am under the impression that WFU does not give out four year accounting degrees. If there are financial differences, this is something to be aware of.

As far as transportation goes, the Greensboro airport is 30 minutes away and has many flights in and out every day. Charlotte is a little bigger and is only about an hour and 20 minutes away as well. The school does provide shuttles.

Thank you. I think the 5year program for both bachelor and master degree is good. It seems if I go to Wake Forest, the best choise for me is to major in accounting, but in other schools other opportunities lie.
So, is it garanteed that accounting major graduates are offered great jobs?

Wake and William and Mary are not similar at all. Not even close. William and Mary is a very good but very intense small state university. Its mostly noted for the liberal arts and some pre-med. Its not a Division 1 school in athletics. Its outstanding, but nerdy …and from my impression, the students are not all that warm and fuzzy and happy. Just intense.

Wake is an outstanding school, and independent private school, well balanced with a superb business school. It also has an outstanding Accounting program with very good CPA exam results. It has superb internships all up and down the east coast, including New York. There is a Wake Forest club in Manhattan. Wake is also a Division I school for athletics, with outstanding teams in basketball, football, field hockey, golf, soccer etc. That goes for women’s teams as well! Womens soccer and field hockey are in the top 10 nationally.

Wake is in a lovely town of 250,000 people. Its clean, safe and friendly. There is lots to do in Winston Salem, especially around the arts with a good opera team, orchestra and art galleries. There are good restaurants there as well.

Students come to Wake Forest from all over the United States and international students as well. Wake Forest carries a wonderful name in the business community of hard working students, strong ethics and a solid well balanced education. Its an outstanding undergraduate experience.

@sovereigndebt William&Mary is a Division 1 school. @elianeyinz I would drop William & Mary from your list even though its a great school just because it isn’t strong in the majors you want. Unless the other factors of William & Mary appeal to you so much that you want to go there. Wake Forest and UCLA seem to be stronger in what you want to study and then I would decide between those two. Then it’s just looking at whether you want a small school or a large school. Also take into account weather too. Good Luck with your decisions!

Wow- I have never heard anyone say that W&M and Wake are not very similar. I guess those kids that passed the CPA exam weeks after graduating from W&M really didnt happen. When W&M played Wake and Maryland in hoops and won or when UVirginia lost to W&M in football wasnt real, must have been a dream.

That might be one of the worst informed post on CC. At least in the top ten.

To soveigndebt: Thanks for you detailed info. I am more inclined to WFU now for the exquisite accounting major and Biz school. UCLA is too huge and not so good for study but experiencing city life. For CWM, if I want to learn anything relating to art majors I will go there.

To AmbitiousDreams: I have been struggling with UCLA and WFU. Both are good relating to Biz majors. I am more inclined to WFU to concentrate on accounting, for UCLA, if I go there I have to figure out what my major will be which is another painful journey.

Thank you guys for all the well- rounded info. I am a high school graduate from China. I will decide which school to go after I attend the reception by UCLA in Shanghai next week. Thanks again!

Any large school is what you make of it. If you are sociable and willing to meet professors in office hours and join student organizations, you can make a big school “small” - that said, if you are a bit on the shy side a smaller school might work better for you. Just be honest with yourself and make the best choice for you By the way congratulations!
