Please Help Me Find A School!

Im in dire need of a school where i can find at least a couple of the things i am looking for. I have already looked @ Spelman, Emory, and Swarthmore, those are my top 3 schools. But i am uneasy that they arent completely what im looking for. Can i expect to find "the perfect school". I want a good academic balance but i also want there to be the music and theater programs i crave..without me being a set major , (b/c i dont want to major in music or theater) I also want it to be a diverse campus, and relatively close (ish) to home. right now im looking from FL-NY on the east coast, and id like to keep my school as close to the east coast as possible.

Im a Black Female
i live in Columbia, MD
i attend a public school
i have a 3.8 GPA and i am # 15 in my class of 280
i have a 24 composite on the ACT
i have a 1820 on the SAT (600 math, 540 verbal, and 680 writing)
i take all GT Honors classes ive taken 3 AP test (a 3 on my english lang. and 5 on french lang. and french lit)
i am involved in
-madrigals
-womens quartet
-concert choir
-math team
-all spring musicals
-marching band (color guard)
-Black Student Union president
-NAACP treasurer
-Spanish National Honor Society
-National Honor Society

AND i also do community service oriented activites:

-Citizen's Adivsory Council Female Youth Rep.
-Leadership U Class President
-PAWS member

I am very active in my community with a theater program in which we use theater as a means to teach children....so a school without a theater or music program is dead to me..aha to put it nicely

So if you could help me find a school thats right for me, without letting it be too much of a stretch, but my major requirements are....

1) wonderful Urban location
2) medium sized
3) great academics
4) diverse
5) music and theater have a major presence

Thanks again!

Smith. Much better and much larger music and theatre programs than Swarthmore or Spelman (5-College Early Music Program; Renaissance vocal groups either all-women, or mixed voice; big theatre complex, the hub of the 5-colleges); much more diverse (28% of students on Pell Grants http://www.smith.edu/newsoffice/releases/05-002.html); really happening town (not urban, but you are actually in the town.) Orchestras and ensembles; and an early childhood ed. program where you can actually do theatre and music with kids. Excellent academics, and actually "medium sized" (I doubt Swat would qualify; how big is Spelman? Bev Tatum at Spelman is terrific!)

A 24 on the ACT and 1820 on the SAT puts you no where near Emory and Swarthmore... you have basically no chance at those schools.

When looking at schools that may fit your credentials, check out the range on their ACT and SAT Verbal and Math scores. From what i've been told, colleges won't really be taking this writing section too seriously.

thats strange...since when is it all about my standardized test scores...? did you even look at my other credentials?

thanks! i'll check it out

Johns Hopkins, George Washington U, U Maryland College Park, Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse

Goucher might work for you as a safe match.

go gaux - When colleges look at your app, they will sort them out by standardized test scores, GPA, and class rank. If you don't fit into a certain category compared to other students, then you won't get in no matter what happened with your ECs and Essay, and recommendations.

Emory's 25-75% for SAT scores are 640-720 (verbal) and 660-740 (math), and for ACT it's 29-33. Your scores put you in the bottom 25% of all students, and for some sections (ACT and verbal), you aren't even close. That's why you likely won't get accepted. Also remember that athletes take up a good portion of this bottom 25%. You aren't a qualified applicant there. And Swarthmore is even harder to get into.

She is a URM, and they are also a major component of the bottom 25%. Her class rank outweighs, by far, a low SAT score.

Might I suggest Tufts? Our music and theatre presence on campus is more than just "existant" :) There are so many theater productions during the school year that I 1) wonder how so many students find time to memorize hundreds of lines, and 2) never have enough time to see them all!
