For those familiar with literature Extended Essays, I have a couple questions:

Are we allowed to do a full-scale literary analysis on translated literature (let’s say it’s originally Spanish but I’ve read the English version) WITHOUT citing native-language works?

Would my essay on this non-English work be considered a Group 1 or Group 2 essay? (keeping in mind I’ve not read it in the original language nor can I comment on the original language)

This is all made clear in the guidelines...but I'll give you what I remember from mine last year.

No, you cannot use only a work in translation. If you wish to use a work not originally in your A1 language, it must be used in a comparison paper with one that is. I'm fairly certain this would be your only option if the original work is in a language you do not speak. If you wish to do a group 2 paper, your essay must be in your group 2 language, and it must be relevant to that language--this includes analysis of a literary work of that language, as well as a language or cultural topic.

Ya, that's what I saw when reading the EE guidelines but the IB coordinator at my school approved my topic and didn't say a word about it... Now I'm mad.. -.-# ...ARGH.......
