I don’t know what college to choose or what to major in! The deadline, May 1st, is coming up and I don’t know what to do and I’m really stressing out about it.
The colleges I was accepted to are:
- University of Delaware (1 hour away)
- James Madison University (4 and a half hours away)
- Rutgers (45 minutes away)
- Richard Stockton University (1 hour away)
- Monmouth University (1 hour away)
I sometimes wonder if I applied to the wrong colleges. What if there was another college out there that I should have applied to, but didn’t? When I applied to these colleges I thought I knew what I wanted in a college, but now I’m not so sure. I don’t know what size (small, medium, or large), setting (urban, suburban, or rural), or how far away from home I want my college to be. I thought going far away to college would be a good thing for me since I’m shy and want to become more outgoing, but now I’m not so sure if that’s what I want. I know I’ll be miserable without my parents, my 2 sisters, and my dog. My mom wants me to stay close to home while my dad thinks I should go to James Madison which is 4 and a half hours away. I would have hardly any debt when I graduate if I choose Rutgers or Richard Stockton, but I don’t really care for these 2 schools that much. No matter what school I choose however I still get 2 years of college free because my dad is in the military and gave me his 911 GI bill. I just don’t know what to do. I feel like whatever one I choose I’ll regret that I didn’t pick another one. Please help me!
I don’t know anything specific about these schools. It seems that you have three choices close to home. Think about selecting the one that has the majors you think you want to explore, even if you go in undecided. Think about relative costs and any other factors that you like, then make a choice and don’t look back. Then you can focus on the specific school and find things to look forward to. You are in the push me pull me stage of senior year, it is exciting and scary. Try not to psych yourself out.
UDelaware is a great school. I would choose that.
Did you visit any of these schools?
The way it looks, you want a college close to home, so maybe not James Madison. It’s good that you chose a school that would help you grow into the kind of person you want to be. And it’s even better that you were honest with yourself in the end, and realized that going too far away might be too much for you.
If you don’t care for Rutgers or Stockton, don’t go. So it looks like either Monmouth or U Delaware. I say that between these two, pick which one you feel the best about + has the best program for whatever subject you’re interested in studying.
It’s impossible to have considered every college out there, weighed all the pros and cons, figured out exactly what you wanted, and made the best possible decision about where to go to school. At the end of the day, there was so much chance in which schools you knew about, which ones appealed to you enough at the time of applying, which ones accepted you, etc., that went into this final five. You don’t have to make the best choice, really. Because guess what? There’s no way of knowing whether or not your choice was the best.
You just have to make a good choice, and like NorthernMom61 said, don’t look back.
