PLease help me-Should I list all swimming accomplishments !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have spent 7 years for swimming, and I got 15th place of 100 butterfly and 19th place in 100 breaststroke in 2009, and 18 place in 100 breaststroke in 2008, all in state HS swimming championship.
But I not good enough for recruiting, I might swim for DIII colleges.

Should I list all these accomplishments in the application form
PLease help me with your input, many thanks in advance

I wouldn’t list them; they are impressive but not something that will improve your chances at UPenn, and you probably shouldn’t waste limited award space. If I were you I would list swimming as an activity and I would either write an essay about it in which I listed the awards or I would simply say “multiple swimming awards” in the additional info section of the common app

Thanks a lot, Longstreet,
Yes, I listed all my debating awards including regional awards and state awards in the additional section of the common app. but i did not list all swimming accomplishments
I would like to put all together then send to all colleges with a cover letter
How yu think?
Thanks again for your input

I’m just not sure it will make a big difference. . .please know that this isn’t based off of some vast personal research done on the effects swimming/sports awards have on your chances, but my guess is that unless you were a recruited athlete your awards won’t count for too much. Their biggest role would be showing committment, but the fact that you swam for 7 years already does that quite nicely. I just can’t see them opening your application and saying “wow, this kid won 19th place in state 100 butterfly; we need him here for sure”. Do you see what I’m saying? I’m sure that your application was already pretty amazing and these few awards won’t do much of anything; in fact, I’d be more worried about annoying the addmissions officers. They put limits on things like word count in essays and the number of rec letters for a reason, and I can’t see sending info they didn’t ask for boosting your chances much (unless you were deffered, in which case I’d send a letter saying UPenn is still you top choice). That’s what I personally think about the situation.

You can send a resume that includes some of you awards. Top twenty in some states might be a pretty good feat.

Does your state meet have a consolation final? If so, and you would have been in it for this one particular event (assuming 8 lane finals/consolations) you could put down 2009 State Finalist. If there were no consolations, I wouldn’t mention it.

Yes, it was in consolation final.

which state is this? that can have a HUGE difference. a state swimming award in california means more than a state award in any other place. in fact, a 16th place finalist in southern california could be a state champion or very close to one in many states.

in my case, i only listed the biggest ones: CIF finalist, varsity MVP, league titles, etc… depends on how significant an accomplishment you think your award is.
