I'm in a program (kind of like Prep for Prep if anyone's heard of that) called NJ SEEDS. Through them I take classes, and get help applying to private day and boarding schools. I work hard in school, play sports, instruments, have a GPA of 4.3 and I really think I'd have a chance at some of these schools. I especially want to go to Andover, but I also have my sights set more realistically on Mercersberg and Westtown. There's only problem; my parents won't let me go for interviews and tours!! They don't want to spend the time, or money (gas, hotels) travelling to Massachusetts, Penncilvania, Connecticut, etc. We live in NJ - it's really not that far; only a few hours away and most schools won't come to you unless you're 4-5 hours away! My parents also don't want to fill out any tax information for scholarships (which I'd need) They are perfectly content to let me just go to the local magnet school. There are two good magnet schools in my area and 1 private school, but I don't know if I'll get in. (BCA has a 15% accaptance rate and only takes 2 students from my town) I really want to go to a boarding school, but I can't without my parents letting go for interviews. What can I do??

You are in a very difficult position, if your parents truly object to you attending boarding school, and are unwilling to support your efforts. Their cooperation is essential, and I doubt that schools will accept your application without their required contributions. If you are in the NJ SEEDS program, you must have been recommended by a counselor or school official. Would someone from your school or SEEDS be willing to approach your parents about this? There are many good prep schools in or near NJ: Blair, Peddie, Lawrenceville, Hun, George, Westtown, Hill, St. Andrews, Solebury, and Mercersburg come to mind immediately. Maybe your parents would be willing to make a trip, or to speak by telephone with an admissions representative. If they remain adamant against this, I suggest you seek advice from someone within the SEEDS program - they might know a way to circumvent this.

what about an online/skype interview? campus tours aren’t mandatory.
