Hi, I am applying to Northwestern as a Winter transfer. I am wondering if I HAVE to submit financial aid? Is it required? I thought not, but am now confused because of this link:

It says " All students (and their custodial parents) must complete the following materials:"
and then FAFSA and CSS

It is possible it just means all students who actually want to apply for financial aid.

SECOND QUESTION:
Would it be worth it to submit the FAFSA and CSS if your parents make 300k per year? Or would it essentially be pointless. Also, could I receive merit based scholarships if I don't submit the fafsa?

There are no merit based scholarships not linked to need. You don’t have to submit them if you’re not applying for aid. And yes, it would be pointless.

Hi Should222-
I pretty much agree with arbiter213 with one caveat. IF there is even a slimmer of a chance that your parents earnings could go south, then you have to have the FAFSA/CSS on record should you need to seek monies.

Arbiter213 and APOL: thank you very much for the replies.

I just want to make sure that I understand this. If I don’t supply my FAFSA and CSS, there is absolutely no chance I’ll receive any aid whatsoever, and I’ll have to pay the $13,864/quarter out of pocket or with loans (or, of course, independent scholarships)? That seems to be a pretty huge amount of money.

Also, on my common application, I wrote that I will not be applying for need-based financial aid. Would it reflect poorly if I send in my FAFSA/CSS?
