Please Help (Not a chance post, I promise)

So I had two teachers write me a letter of recommendation, a biology teacher and a math teacher, and I wrote on my transcript release form that I wanted my biology teacher’s LOR to be sent to ND. However, I just found out by looking at my common app form that my school sent my math teacher’s LOR and school doesn’t resume from winter break until January 4th, while the deadline to apply to ND is January 1. If I request my school to replace my math teacher’s LOR with my biology teacher’s LOR right when I come back from break, would ND be able to receive my new LOR on time for the admissions review? I’ll have all my other common app stuff completed by January 1.

Thank you!

I think ND requires 2 letters? Not sure. Maybe you can log into you Common App account and assign it to your Bio teacher… .

Oops, my bad. ND only take one letter. If you can log into your Common App account now, delete your math teacher and add your bio teacher.

@Fiona1997 Thanks for responding but how do I do that? (My school uses Naviance btw)

Yes, this is your school system. Your counselor can upload your transcripts on Naviance, but the recommendation letters from your teachers and counselor should be on Common App.

I’ve done all the applications myself and I’m pretty familiar with it so don’t panic! I’m here for you!

@Fiona1997 Okay thanks but how do I edit which recommenders to send? When I click on “Recommenders and FERPA”, I don’t see any options to delete my math teacher and add my biology teacher. Sorry about this haha.

  1. Log into you Common App
  2. My College
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Recommenders and FERPA
  5. Manage Recommenders (at the top of the page)

@Fiona1997 Thank you so much!

No problem! There is a trash can button, you can delete your math teacher from the list and add your bio teacher.

@Fiona1997 It still says my math teacher’s letter is assigned, but I guess for some reason only my school has control over which ones get sent. I really appreciate your lending your time to help though! I’ll just try to contact my office to get this fixed. Thank you!

No, you are able to do it yourself. If you don’t mind, pm me your phone number so I can text you able it. it’s easier. Don’t worry I’m not a stalker!

My daily random act of kindness  I really don’t want you to miss the deadline!

@Fiona1997 Thanks but the thing is when I click on manage recommenders, it has my teachers listed as “other recommenders” and their statuses as invited, which is weird, even though they are assigned to a bunch of colleges.

If it shows “invited” it means that they haven’t even started working on your recommendation. It should be “submitted” which mean the letters are ready to be submitted by you. You really should call you teachers and ask them to finish your letters asap… sorry to hear that… I know it’s frustrating… Just let me know if you need further help  I will pray for you that everything will be ready tomorrow!

The schools won’t get their recommendations until you submit your application. Even though it is “submitted” on your page, you still need to submit it to the schools yourself.

@Fiona1997 Haha then the system’s messed up because I know they finished their recommendation a while ago, because they were submitted to Naviance a long time ago and I have applied and gotten decisions by previous colleges, so I know they’re definitely finished. Thanks for all the help though! Sorry if I caused you any troubles

@Fiona1997 Yeah I’ve submitted my common app, and it has the green check mark next to where it lists my teacher recommendations on “Recommendaters and FERPA”, so it’s definitely done. It’s just that for whatever reason it won’t let me switch recommenders.

I’m glad that I can help! Do you mean you already submitted your app to ND? If so, the only way to “switch” the recommenders is to ask your bio teacher to email the admissions office directly.

@Fiona1997 Yeah I already submitted my app to ND, but my guidance counselor always sends the teacher recommendations afterwards , meaning I should be able to switch them after submitted my app. Thanks for all the help though! Good luck in the college admissions process!
