Please Help! So frusterated...

I’m a high school junior who is very frusterated and stressed about the college process. I have been preparing for the admissions process for the past year, butI’ve really struggled to find schools I’ve loved and I’m feeling really lost with this whole thing.

I’m looking for schools primarily on the east coast that have statistics in my range or lower. I have a few reach schools I love but that’s the problem, they are reach schools. I am really, really struggling to find schools that could be a potential fit for me.

I loved Villanova but that’s a reach and I absolutely loved Tulane. I liked George Washington though not as much. Hated NYU, IU, U of I (too big).

GPA: 3.5/4 but shows a strong upward trend
ACT: 31
Insane amount of extracurriculars, work experience, internships, etc.
Intended majors: communications & political science

LOOKING FOR: schools primarily on the east coast. 5-20k in size, closed “traditional” campus but as close to an urban area as possible. Preferably in my range or safety schools.

Please help me find some schools!!!

If you like Villanova, take a close look at Providence College and St. Joseph’s College (Philly).

Syracuse is very strong in Communications.

In DC, American University.

if you’re willing to go to NC you might like Elon which has a good communications dept. I second Syracuse and American

Are finances an issue?
Sounds like you would prefer a mid sized university with a traditional campus in or near an urban area. That was my S’s preference as well. We didn’t set out to look at Catholic schools, but many did seem to fit the bill. Some schools we considered (did not visit all of them) were: Fordham (where he went to college and loved), UScranton, St. Joes, Loyola-MD, Siena, Providence, Drexel, and American. If you like Tulane you might also consider Loyola- New Orleans.

It would be worth looking through the full list of Jesuit colleges for geographic and academic fits – most are mid sized universities in or near urban areas: http://www.ajcunet.edu/institutions/

Finances are not a huge issue, but I will need at least some sort of scholarship from wherever I choose to go (assuming the school is ridiculously expensive, like Tulane). I’ve found the same thing w/ catholic schools too. Thanks for the ideas!!

American is definitely a good school to look at. It’s in DC, 7,000 undergrads and definitely an up and coming school. Probably a target. Great communications.
You should also consider Northeastern. It’s in Boston and has about 12,000. Also an up and coming school but it’s a reach. Great communications.
Maybe Boston College? It would be a reach but it’s a lot like Villanova I think. 9,500 students and it’s nearby Boston. Plus, Amy Poehler went there.
Georgetown would definitely be a reach but it’s a great school. About 7,000 students. Gorgeous campus and it’s in DC. Has one of the best (maybe the best) political science programs in the country.
Tufts would be a big reach too but it’s worth a shot. It’s right outside of Boston and has about 5,000 students.
Think about some Canadian schools like McGill or Toronto.
If you are a girl, consider looking at some all-girls schools. There are some small all girl schools like Bryn Mawr and Barnard (really good political science) that are really close to bigger schools.
Sorry I couldn’t come up with any safeties.

Finances are always an issue if you need some sort of aid. Please ask your parents how much they’ll pay each year and let us know.
