Please Help ! Tufts Vs Rochester ( engineering)

Hi everyone,

I got accepted to both schools. Because of my low income, my need was almost all the tuition fee and it was fully met at Tufts and I received the renaissance scholarship (full tuition) at Rochester. So money is not an issue at all now thanks god and both schools are manageable.

But I really like both schools and I am not sure where to go. I will be majoring in engineering. I was leaning towards Tufts but being a renaissance scholar at Rochester is also something very hard to turn down. Can anyone help me out in my decision? I really appreciate any insight I am given.

Both are great schools. Rochester is more known for engineering and hard science; while Tufts is more known for humanities and social science.

Overall, Tufts is considered the better institution and has easy access to the city of Boston (which is much nicer than Rochester).

Personally, if I was certain that I was going to major in engineering, physics, chemistry, or math… then I would choose Rochester. But I would choose Tufts for almost any other major, or if I was unsure about my major.

You cannot make a mistake, however, because both schools are fantastic. Congratulations!

Thanks nrotc! Anyone else please?

Bump

Tufts’ engineering program is rising in esteem (and was more selective this year than ever before, apparently). As this is an “all things being equal” situation in terms of cost, I would go with Tufts for prestige and location.

I would go with TUFTS!!!

Thanks! Any other opinion??

For engineering, Rochester

If one’s 100% sure one wants engineering in a hardcore manner, Rochester.

However, it’s really YMMV depending on other academic interests, campus environment, etc.

I’ve known STEM folks who turned down Rochester for Tufts and the reverse.

While Tufts overall is more prestigious, among engineers, Rochester is more respected. However, both are within the ballpark so if you have the engineering skills, the differences shouldn’t make much of a difference.
