Please Help VERY WORRIED about college

Ok... I think you have excellent stats. As far as colleges go, I don't think you have anything to worry about, and I bet most of the kids in your graudating class rather have your stats than their's. Um, as far as advice goes, I think you should really bump up your GPA a little, just to secure a spot. I think you should apply to all of those schools, because they are pretty much matches. U of M is a match, but is slowly fading towards as a reach. I think you should definitly apply to Villanova and Boston College, and it wouldn't hurt you to apply to a reach like Cornell; who knows, they may like what they see.

"And about being serious senior year, I came to this country somewhere between 2000-2001."

Ah hah - make sure this information gets into your GC recommendation! You may wish to mention that you are now on the right path academically.

If you apply ED it will show more interest and committement. You may be deferred - so keep up your grades.

Research departments of interest at U of R, so that you can explain exactly why it is such a good match for you. Don't be afraid to contact professors directly (via e-mail) with intelligent questions. You may get an answer, you may not, but it won't hurt you.

great advice ohio mom and I hate the sat, thanks! Lol I really thought just going to a decent college would be impossible with these grades. But I am seeiing some hope, I am definietly going to try hard this year, and just give it all I got. I am going to apply ED to ROchester, Rutgers, Penn State, BU, Michigan, Cornell and maybe another one. If I get rejected from UR in Ed itself I guess it wasnt meant to be, since I guess it means even i do get my grades up they would have rejected me RD. SO these are my thoughts and the path i am headed. Any further advice would be great, on how I can make my app loook better and get into ROchester or any other schools listed. Thanks for everything, you guys are awesome

I just checked U of R site. They are setting up off campus receptions throughout the country. They will be in Phila/Cherry Hill 9/17--NYC 9/25-- Saddle Brook 10/22. You should be able to sign up on-line by 9/1. When my d applied 2 years ago, they also did off campus interviews in the NYC area. Continue to show enthusiasm and interest in U of R- write a great essay--do well on SAT (maybe consider taking ACT too). I am sure you have done it already, but check out the U of R website- Admissions info. Good luck.

hey marny1, yea i had an interview sometime early august. I felt it really well, I researched the school before hand, and really showed interest while talking to the interviewer. Hopefully, that helps me when I apply in the Fall.
Any other thoughts anyone?

njnjnjnjnj, thanks for the reply. I can imagine the upheaval moving to a new country must have been for you.

I agree with marny1's advice: make sure you make it very clear to Rochester they are your first choice. Perhaps your essay(s) can explain your situation. Work hard on the essay, let people critique it and refine it. All schools want students who are excited to be there. I think you have a decent chance especially if you get a good SAT score. Good luck to you.

Okay, I'm going to be honest. Your grades aren't going to make you a "shoe-in," to say the least. I would DEFINITLY NOT APPLY EARLY ACTION!!!!! IF you apply EA, all they will see will be your poor junior and sophmore grades. If you wait, they will see your mid-year report, which should show some improvement.

Do you mean Early ACtion and Early Decsion? I just want to make sure I still have a chance to show how badly I want to get in. And I dont think ROchester has EA, only RD and ED. I am 100% sure I want to go to ROchester, so do you think, I might be rejected ED?, because of these grades or get deferred and then send in senior grades ?

bump.................................any other thoughts

i just would like to say. i feel your pain (GPA-wise)... i'm pretty much on the same situation. seinor, bad GPA, everything else is alright....
