Recently, I have been considering becoming a veterinarian. I have been attempting to acquire a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and it made me think, I might want to attempt saving animals. I have thought about being a vet before but I was never totally sure. I thought I wouldn’t be able to pass the classes or handle the student loans. I was also worried about going through school and then not loving the work. I then considered nursing (and many other jobs) because I knew nurses are always needed and it is a much cheaper route. Yet, I keep having doubts about if I really want to be a nurse. I want more autonomy and I am not certain if I want to help people. I feel like there are a lot of nurses/doctors already and we need more vets. I am just not sure what to do and I need to have some sort of idea as I have a pre advising session next week to pick my classes. Any advice helps Thanks a bunch <3
Well, you are definitely right that nursing has pretty secure job prospects and a decent salary. Vets struggle to pay off their student debt and make a living. If we had too many nurses now, then the job prospects wouldn’t be so good! So “too many” nurses isn’t really a thing at the moment, nor is it likely to be soon. But if you can’t pass the classes for pre-vet, then likely you will have the same challenge with nursing coursework.
dang you are pretty on point with that thanks for the reply though. I will definitely consider that! Have a good night
The other thing I would tell you would be that the first year college classes will be fairly similar. Go shadow a vet. See what they really do day to day. See it that is what you want to do in spite of the cost. For my son shadowing made him even more sure it was the career he wanted. For others it goes completely the other way.
very true. hope your son does well in it and hopefully shadowing a vet will give me the answer. just have to contact a vet now. thanks for the reply!
