Please help~~ which W-2 forms to use for CSS profile and Fafsa

SO my parents said that they don't get their W-2s for a little bit after the new year, but that they will know their gross Income by 12/31. I want to start filling out and filing the FAFSA and CSS profile, but I have no idea where to start, especially without knowing when this info will arrive. Can someone please just lead me in the right direction, this is so confusing.

You can fill both forms out with estimates. The schools requiring the CSS Profile will want copies of tax returns and wage statements (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) but you can wait to submit them once all have been received. You can still submit the CSS Profile application itself, just that you’ll send the supporting documents at a later date. This is typical.

Rent…some schools that use the Profile do not require the submission of tax returns…many do, but not all.

Still…correct…use estimates but use good ones.

That’s interesting, thumper. I haven’t encountered Profile schools that haven’t wanted that material… but then there are a lot colleges I haven’t dealt with or even heard much about their FA requirements. In fact, I have first-hand or second-hand knowledge (from friends) of only about 8 or 9 Profile colleges, and that’s not much!

It would be SOOOOO much simpler if all colleges had the same requirements (and deadlines) for forms and supporting materials…but that sadly is not the case…a real PITA if you ask me.
