FAFSA/CSS and W2 statements due Mon

We are filing our taxes tonight, and completing both FAFSA and CSS Profile. We also need to send our W2 statements to each financial aid office at every school. Is all this really due Mon?

You needn’t have filed your taxes (most people don’t can’t), but it certainly makes things easier (you won’t need to make corrections.

Once you’re done with that, the FAFSA won’t take long.
Once you’re done with that, the CSS Profile will take a little longer, but still not long.
The W-2 (etc.) PROBABLY isn’t due just yet. Once your CSS Profile is complete, you’ll be advised what to send when and where.

Is it all due Monday? No, not for many colleges/states. But it IS due for many many others. So…the answer depends on your individual college. For a lot of us, yet both forms are due Monday.

Just a reminder to all - double check your college requirements…I JUST this week realized one college didn’t want CSS Profile, they have their own form instead (this was Princeton but I assume there are others). AND, that some colleges want even more (I know NYU wants another form if you live in NY).

I’m going to go follow my own advice now and skip off to each colleges website one more time and make sure I’ve got all my forms done.

16B2…you need to check your COLLEGE’s requirements.

To R124687…some schools require the submission of the tax forms…and it has absolutely nothing to do with the status of the Profile. Some Profile schools use IDOC and if that is the case, then YES you will be informed about where/when/how to send what. BUT if your college(s) requires tax forms…you need to send them.

Check each website for the dates of submission. In my kid’s cases, tax form submissions varied. Where my kids went, they wanted the form from 2 years ago (so for this year, that would be 2008) when the applications were submitted. BUT the current tax forms (this year that would be 2009) were not due until later in the cycle.

Good advice. My son’s college wants the FAFSA, the Profile (w/IDOC) and a couple of their own forms as well. It’s on the FA website, though. Students and/or parents need to specifically check the financial aid pages to find this out. The information is not often available on the general admissions pages.
