So I was admitted to Penn ED and its finally time to file for housing. I really want to dorm in the quad (so Fisher/Riepe/Ware) and I have heard that, in order of best to worst, it goes Ware, Fisher, Riepe. I just wanted to hear other people's opinions on the matter and of the quad in general. I'm also open to any other housing opinions at Penn. I heard that if I apply to a residential program and get admitted I automatically get a spot in the dorm building as well, so perhaps I should apply to such programs. Is this true? Thanks a ton.

the differences between the quad houses are so minor that it’s not a big deal

Ware seems to have more partiers (maybe its just my hall) so it may or may not be for you. Riepe seems more quiet to me.

I’d honestly advise you to go for high-rises. Living in the quad isn’t all that it’s cut out to be. You can always visit your friends if you want and the living conditions are infinitely better in the high rises. Everyone wants to go there second year anyways and you can pretty much guarantee housing through in house application if you get in first year.

so you wouldn’t feel more isolated in the high rises because you’re away from the majority of the freshman? it seems easier to make more friends when you’re in the quad then like a 5 minute walk from them.

what axc posted is the prevailing opinion i am hearing from Penn students. I definitely would think living in the quad would be conducive for making friends.

I’m in the high rises and I love it, and I don’t think it’s detrimental to making friends, or isolating. But I’m also in freshman experience–I can’t say anything about Harnwell.

I’ll actually be showing some tour groups around Harrison at Previews if anyone’s coming…
