Please help!

I'm a rising senior and have faced a lot of traumatic outstanding situations and emotional difficulties through the past three years. I have great SAT scores, above average for my top choice (BU) but my GPA is awful. I don't feel that I have had the stability, support, or opportunities a lot of other applicants have had. I don't want to go into it too much, but I'm scared that my GPA will force me to go to a community college. I'm a bright student, and have a lot of potential, but I haven't been able to achieve it because of outstanding circumstances. How do I express that to the school? And, what are the chances of my getting accepted anyway? I know this might not be the right thread but it is the closest to what I am trying to achieve here, so please bear with me!

Also, if it means anything, I'm one of the highest editors on my school paper (3 years of work on it now), I'm a Rugby player (3 years), I did ski team my freshman year, I'm a member of several clubs, I am joining the Yearbook, this Summer I have an internship in a cancer genomics lab (cutting edge one too), I have stellar marks in the subject I want to go into, and I'm an activist (marched on washington and lobbied congress several times) and I will be doing a lot of volunteer work this Summer as well.

If there is a reason for your low GPA, write about it. Make it an additional essay (not a sob story, but a powerful statement about how you’ve worked to overcome such difficulties) in the “Additional Information” section of the common app, so that you still can do a different essay for your main one.
