The financial aid application process is really killing me.
What are W2 forms? Are they required for international students?
Thanks in advance.

The W-2 is an American tax form. No, you don't have one unless you or your parents have been working in the US.

On the other hand, which financial aid application are you completing? The financial aid application for international students does not mention a W-2 form at all. If you are working with the FAFSA or the CSS Profile, you are probably using the wrong forms.

Thank you for your reply.
I just submitted my CSS Profile, and Collegeboard said one of my schools require the “Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) Requirement”, which is what I am working on now.

hey, I’m having the same problem, 50936!
Financial aid forms are really stupid for internationals, don’t you think?
I didn’t send in W-2 Forms either, so I’m hoping that’s ok (I live in Switzerland, but am actaully american, so that makes things even more complicated ;-))

50936, in your chances thread you say that you are an international student from Japan. Are you a US citizen? I am confused because only two of the colleges you mentioned in your chances thread even have financial aid for international students (Cornell and Northwestern) and both of them have a separate financial aid application form for international students: http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/pdf/isfaa.pdf International students don’t complete the CSS Profile unless they are living in the US and/or are US citizens.

Of course I might just be misinterpreting your posts. If you have US citizenship, then none of the above applies to you and I apologize for bringing this up again.
