PLEASE i need help- can i get into howard+other colleges?bad grades.coupleD's & F's - desperate for help & answers

Say, would it be hard for me to get in if I have a couple of F's here and there (bad soph and a bit of jr year) 1 jr year (year) + decent ACT + SAT + Recs+ 2.9/3.0 gpa and good EC's??!

HELP!!! I don't know if I can even get into any colleges at this point...and I don't want to go to CC and transfer after 2 years (even though i wouldnt mind but would prefer not to cause of family issues...)</p>

I'm a URM btw...

any other colleges u guys can recommend??!

so far i was thinking:
Howard- MY FIRST CHOICE (atm) <333
UMN-TC (in state)
AmericanU ( i can try 2 show interest)
Virginia Common WealthU
George Mason U
James Madison
Old Dominion
St.Cloud State
UM-Duluth
More...??!

It's possible that i could have my couselor explain why i got bad grades,..but maybe i'd be better off without that. I reallydon't want to stay in MN because i just HATE this state so much but i can tolerate it.

if it helps here are my fav states: VA,MD,CT,NJ,NY,MA...

At this point I'm just gonna work really hard to raise my grades up to straight A's so i can finish this year strong. Also going to take a good courseload next year.

HELP AND SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!! I'm smart and have potential etc...

i really want to be a lawyer. intended major: political science or econ

EDIT: SAT: 1820 ACT: 26

will retake and hopefully score higher :) My ECs are decent i'm the VP of the diversity club...and maybe i could add a summer program on to the list if i get accepted into it....

You need to list your actual SAT and ACT results - saying they are “decent” is not enough. Otherwise we can’t really speak to your expected results.

You have a couple of other similar threads.

Your bigger problem is OOS publics. They don’t give aid and you’ll need aid.

Howard also doesn’t meet need, and it costs about $34k per year. How will you pay for that?

wait are you saying that if i apply for fin @ howard it will kill my chances of getting in and i won’t be offered none/barely any…i think ive seen ppl with lower gpas (2.3, 2.7s get in LOL.) but i really, really idk i’m scared…

atm all i’m worried about is getting IN. even if i cant get decent aid freshman year would it be possible for me to get a full ride/better aid the nxt year if i get high grades??!

@momof2collegekids: Where in the world did you hear that Howard doesn’t meet need? At all?
I’ve actually heard Howard can give really good fin aid packages…But those are usually reserved for top students. But, even without LOTS of fin aid, Howard isn’t impossibly expensive, you’ll graduate with some debt but you know, it happens lol.

That GPA is going to be a lot of trouble. Especially since it’s not all B’s, it’s a couple D’s and F’s. You’re going to want to really explain, do really well this year, and market yourself.

Suggestions: If you like NY, maybe a SUNY or CUNY school. They cost less than 20,000 a year and aren’t as selective. Mercy College in NY may be an option. Savannah State in GA (Over 90% AA). Virginia State. OH and Temple U in Philly! Temple’s a good one!
