sometimes it is necessary to challenge what people in authority claim to be true. although some respect for authority is ,no doubt, necessary in order or any group or organization to function, questioning the people in charge- even if they are experts or leaders the their fields- makes us better thinkers. it forces all concerned to defend old ideas and decisions and to consider new ones. sometimes it can even correct old errors in though and put an end to wrong actions.

Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of those in positions of authority?

Curiousity and questioning are two ways which have allowed our civilization to advance so far; with the invention of planes, nuclear energy and telecommunications. I feel that is it not only important for us to question authorities but also imperative of us to question - to seek answers, clarifications and understanding.

When everyone thought that the Earth was shaped like a box, Christopher Columbus took on a separate belief - that it is round. Had he not questioned what most people thought was real, we could be living in the same state as the people then; foolishly thinking that Earth is a cube and we will fall off it if we travel too far. This ascertains the need to question authorities, to seek truth.

However, questioning authorities can be a vice at times. Questioning the authorities will mean substantial amounts of knowledge about the 'topic' will have to be known. In addition, it is wise to go through the right channel to question authorities; as a mark of respect. One does not shout across the lecture to tell the lecturer that he is wrong. It will be a rash action and a sign of ill-discipline. It is best that one waits for the lecture to end before proceeding to the lecture to clarify his doubts and questions.

Finally, I think that while it is important to question authorities to clear doubts and to seek new methods, we should not forget the respect that is due for authorities. While fighting old concerns and ideas are imperative for improvement and intellectual growth, one should do it through a proper medium and not challenge the authority in mass public as it could be seen as a rude and ill-mannered action, humiliating both parties.
