Hi guys just wanted your opinion! I'm a junior right now and have a pretty solid ACT score (32) but my GPA is not good at all (3.0) unweighted and around 3.3 weighted, it's first semester now but I am positive it's going to stay in that range. I have many ECs including Science Olympiad, Model UN (Pres), Aspiring Medical Professionals, Spanish Honors Society, Business Professionals of America, multiple awards in these clubs, and over 150 hours of volunteer service at a local hospital as well as a teacher at a religious weekend school. I know my GPA is ugly, but is there any chance at a school in Illinois/ around Illinois: Benedictine University, Loyola University, UIUC, UIC, Purdue, Iowa State, Marquette, U of W Madison, Michigan State? My top choice is Loyola and from my application/essays I know my leadership skills will be able to stand out. Is there any chance I can get accepted to these schools, any school with my GPA? Please help, I'm so worried for application time next year, I don't know if I'll get into any college.

Don’t worry about not getting into college - you will. Your first choice, Loyola (I’m assuming Loyola Chicago), has a 91% acceptance rate. You’ll get in.

(The rest of these stats are based on information from The Princeton Review.)

Benedictine has an average GPA of 3.39 and an acceptance rate of 69%.

UIUC didn’t report its average GPA, but it has an acceptance rate of about 62%. If you’re OOS, I wouldn’t apply, because you wouldn’t receive much (if any) financial aid. If you’re instate, you have a “meh” chance at admission.

UIC has a 71% acceptance rate and an average GPA of 3.29. Over 24% of attending students had high school GPAs in your range, so I’d say that you have a good shot at admission.

Purdue is probably a reach for you. I’m not sure what your major is. If it’s engineering, you won’t get in. If it’s anything else, you have a chance. Tuition is going to be extremely high though if you’re OOS.

Iowa state has an 85% acceptance rate. Based on that and nothing else, I think you have a good shot at being accepted. If your’e OOS, don’t expect financial aid.

Marquette didn’t report their average GPA, but their acceptance rate is 57%. Based on the people that I know who go to Marquette, I don’t think that your chances of admission are particularly strong.

Unless you’re instate, don’t apply for UW-Madison. Same for Michigan State, although you do have a chance at admission at least.

Don’t worry about apps, as long as you stay organized and on top of them they’re easy and painless. You should get rid of most (but not necessarily all) of the OOS publics since they’ll be too expensive. If there’s an OOS public you really really like and have a good chance at admission at, I would still apply. Privates are the way to go if you want OOS. Instate, publics.
