I’m a current freshman at the University of Tampa (I’m an international business finance major) and I’m trying to decide whether or not to transfer to UF. I finished my first semester with a 3.88 GPA and by the end of my second semester I will have taken 53 credits (I’d need to take 7 credits at a community college over the summer to transfer beginning of sophomore year). I will only transfer if UF offers better opportunities. Am I more likely to get an internship/job if I graduate from UF? Tampa is really centrally located as far as business goes so I’m wondering if I have more internship opportunities there . However, it seems like UF has more clout (as least within FL) and their alumni base is larger. Like I said, the only way I’ll transfer is if UF will be significantly better for my future and career. Any advice is welcome!
Are you in-state or oos? If you are in-state, transferring to UF make a lot of sense. It is so much less exepnsive than UT, and it is more highly respected throughout the state (and probably elsewhere) than UT. UT has come a long way recently in terms of prestige, but it still lags significantly behind UF. Although Tampa certainly has better opportunities for internships durin the school year, UF students don’t seem to have trouble finding internships during the summer.
UF has one of the best career resources in the country. Companies from all over come and recruit at UF. Just this week I walked by an internship/jobs fair on campus. UF also has many business related and major specific clubs.
In terms of academic reputation, alumni network and employment future, UF is vastly superior to the University of Tampa. If you can transfer, it is well worth it even if you have to pay out of state fees.
