These things always make me wonder how the heck I was accepted--and scared that I won't be able to handle the rigor of Princeton! They must've really loved my essays and teacher recs: I know the Chicago admissions council specifically told me they did, so I imagine it was the clincher for Princeton as well. My stats are almost laughable even compared to some of the rejected students :)

I'm glad the US college system is so much more holistic and individualized than the systems in other countries where it's based purely on exam grades.

JoeTrumpted, we`re in the same boat! Sure I have good grades and SAT scores, but some of the other folks' scores... simply insane! It certainly must have been my teacher evaluations and essays that got me in, because my scores? (although good), Probably not! Do I feel daunted? Perhaps, but I look at it as though scores start really meaning something come September. I really don't worry so much about whether I'll be able to handle the rigors of Princeton because I trust that the admission committee was right in seeing something in me and believing that I'll be able to succeed in this environment.

Yeah, that's what I say to make myself feel better, though some of these kids are almost frightening! But I do trust that the Princeton admissions council knew what they were doing, and I'm excited to meet all of these people. Being with such high achievers will surely motivate me even further!

Don't worry if your stats don't quite measure up to what you see on the decision threads. In my experience at Princeton, drive is a great predictor of success. In contrast, I've seen people with 2300+ SAT's getting mostly C's because they don't work hard. If you work hard and are engaged in your coursework, you will succeed here.

Calm down guys. You are chosen not only for your grades but for your potential to succeed. Adcoms are professional and they know exactly what they are doing. Have you seen their freshman retention rates? These are first class institutions with all the resources to help you handle whatever they throw at you. Be confident not daunted.
