please rank these AP classes easiest-hardest

AP Psychology
AP European History
AP Music Theory
AP Art History
AP Calculus AB
AP Computer Science A

I really need help deciding which AP classes to take. I would really appreciate if you guys ranked these classes from easiest to hardest, and if possible, why you chose it. Thanks so much!

Easy: AP Psychology, AP Computer Science A.
Medium: AP Music Theory, AP Calculus AB.
Harder: AP Art History, AP European History.

Psych and Comp. Sci. have a reputation for being easy, and, personally, I agree (currently taking both). I haven’t any of the other classes, so my rankings are based on things I have seen online. I have taken Calc. BC, though, and thought it was medium-hard.

I honestly think that it depends on what subjects you’re good at.

While I do agree that AP psych is easy and AP music theory and AP calc are medium, AP comp sci was hard for me and AP European History was easy. I never took the AP Art History one, but it’s the hardest AP test to get a 5 on I think.

it also depends on your school. AP euro and psych are known as the “easy APs” at my school. ask people from your school who have already taken it.

putting aside the difficulty of the actual class, the psych test was really easy as well. I just crammed the entire Barron’s study guide in a couple days after doing no assignments or test prep all year long in class and I got a 5. calc is easy if you’re a math person.

Easy: AP Psychology, AP European History
Medium: AP Computer Science
Hard: AP Calculus, AP Music Theory

I have no experience with art history so I can’t rank it. It also really depends on your school/teacher.

I’m in AP Art History right now and it is HARD. And a ton of work. They’re going to make the test a bit easier next year though, but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend taking it JUST for the sake of taking another AP. You’d be much better off taking some other art class or another AP.

If you’re a math person, you’ll pick up Calc AB pretty quickly, whereas if you don’t consider yourself strong in math you’ll probably struggle in this class/on the exam.

The general consensus is that the AP Psych exam is easy. Now the class, on the other hand, may not be.

For AP Comp Sci, it helps if you have a good teacher obviously, but make sure to do a lot of programming at home as well (for example I used Eclipse-it’s free!). MC can be time-consuming because you have to figure out each problem individually, but I think the difficulty level depends on how much prior experience you have with programming and the quality of your teacher.

Euro (at my school) is an extremely challenging class with tons of stuff to memorize but also one of the most rewarding-we get to watch movies, take field trips etc. Plus our teacher is awesome. I’d say if you have a good teacher you’re pretty well set for the exam, but it’s definitely not a cakewalk like Human Geography/Environmental Science.

Art History and Music Theory I’d stay away from, unless you are really really interested/experienced in those subjects. I haven’t taken either of them personally, but those who have say Art History is so memory-intensive it’s really annoying if you’re not a history buff, and Music Theory what with its composing and ear listening and sight singing is extremely difficult without a lot of prior exposure to, well, music.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks, you all helped!

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Almondjoy7 and Treciture. I’m in AP Art History now and I’m pretty confident it’ll be the hardest AP i’ll ever take in high school- so like the above posters said, stay away from it unless you actually have an interest in the subject (I’m finding the class much more difficult than Euro or US History). I’m pretty scared about that AP test lol.

Psychology and Calc AB are pretty easy (the latter if you are decent at math), and from what i’ve heard, Comp Sci is relatively difficult (at my school I heard the class was easy but people didn’t do to so hot on the test). Euro is just a lot of stuff to absorb and memorize, but with some time and effort you should be able to handle it.

I haven’t taken Music Theory, but at my school there are numerous prereqs for the class, and its encouraged that you are already part of band, orchestra, choir, etc. Due to this, I’d imagine it isn’t an easy class.

Overall ranking from easiest to hardest (this is obviously my own personal ranking, yours may look much different): Psych, Calc AB, Comp Sci ?, Music Theory, Euro (just b/c of the enormous amount of info), Art History

Btw I’m not sure if you really wanted any more input or not, just thought I’d chip in my view

Thanks thiruvin000, now I’m sure I will not take AP Art History.

I would look at the AP test score distributions and number earning 5s. The tests with the highest total numbers of get fives (because more students tend to take easier tests) and the highest percentages of 5s are your best bet.

I strongly agree with the other posters that part of course difficulty depends where your strengths lie.

As others have said, it depends on your school. At my school, AP Euro and AP Calculus are considered extremely hard classes. AP Psych, AP Computer Science, AP Art History are considered easy on the other hand. We don’t have AP Music Theory so I can’t comment on that one. If I were you, I’d pick the ones that you are most interested in. If you really wanna judge my exam, take a look online at the released exams and decide from there.

I have only taken a few, but here is my list:

What I have taken:

Easiest
AP Calculus AB (I self study ahead as teacher teaches too slowly)
AP Statistics
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C Electricity/Magnetism
AP World History
AP American History
Hardest

Overall (I think):

Easiest
AP Calculus AB
AP Human Geography
AP Environmental
AP Psychology
AP Statistics
AP Economics
AP Physics B
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C Mechanics
AP Physics C Electricity/Magnetism
AP World History
AP Foreign Language
AP American History
AP Biology
Hardest

Just for more reference, at my school
Automatic A:
AP Psychology
AP Computer Science A
AP Calculus AB
Impossible A:
AP Music Theory
AP Art History
AP European History

they seem like pretty ok ap’s. I took the ap art history test with about a week of studying and got a 5. comp sci and psych are easy if you just go through the year with somewhat effort. euro and calc can be killers if yu aren’t good in those subjects. if yu are good with math, calc is ok but euro is a pain with a huge curriculum. not sure about music
