Hi guys, I'm a Lebanese 11th grade student. My goal is to get into one of the US top colleges but I would like some insight as to which colleges to consider applying to. I'm probably going to major in some kind of engineering although I'm open to other things.

Here's my profile:

SAT 1st/2nd time: (took it twice)
Math 740/800
CR 790/760
Writing 730/700
Super score: 2,320

Class rank for grades 9/10/11:
2nd/1st/1st

School grades out of 20 for grades 9/10/11 (I think 18 out of 20 is the equivalent of a max GPA because you basically can't get any higher):
17 / 17.5 / 18

Academic honors: I'm on the schools honors list, have receieved numerous academic achievement awards)

Extracurriculars include debate club member in 10th grade (online and regular), charity member in 11th grade (helped organize fundraising sales), school science fair winner (1st place in both grades 10 and 11), participant in 3 national science fairs (1 in grade 10 and 2 in grade 11), winner of 1 national science fair in grade 11 (held at LAU University, won 1st place in the water treatment competition). I was also in the public safety club in grade 8 if that matters at all.
In 11th grade I participated in a 2 day MUN (model united nations) conference after receiving training from our school. Next year I'm going to participate in 2 other MUN conferences one of which is held in Netherlands). In 9th grade as well I was the class president for the year.

For what it's worth, I've saved up to travel to Oxford this summer to take math and physics courses, as well as public speaking workshops.
So that's it.

I would really appreciate your advice, insight or opinion. Thanks!

Hi guys thanks for the replies. Well for starters I am an international student, and yes chances are I’ll be applying for financial aid.

I was hoping you would recommend colleges for me but seeing as this is a “chance me” section, what are my chances of getting into MIT, Stanford, Caltech, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, or Cornell mainly?

Ur sat scores: WOW! Really!
But ur EC’s : they are pretty good but nothing much unique…
But u still never no…u could still get it. Berkeley would be a high match…the rest can’t tell!( basically I can’t tell)

You have good chances at Cornell and Carnegie Mellon. However Stanford and Caltech and Berkeley are all extremely hard to get into, especially engineering at Berkeley and general admission at Stanford and Caltech. Out of those 3, you probably have the best chances at Berkeley. All of the schools are pretty difficult to get into but I think that you would definitely get into at least 1 of the schools you listed if you applied to all of them. For safety schools, I would look into Case Western and Purdue. Good luck!

Virtually no chance at MIT and caltech, both colleges accept very few international applicants and the ones they do are among the smartest, with national and international awards under their belt.

Carnegie Mellon does NOT offer financial aid to international applicants. If you cant pay the full cost of attendance to Carnegie Mellon (about $60,000 a year), I would not apply there.

You have a decent chance at Cornell, berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon, and an ok shot at Stanford. Class rank and test scores are excellent, but the international applicant pool is more competitive, especially for students applying for financial aid.

Thanks everyone. I will look into these colleges @barrk123 @cortana431 it’s a bummer these colleges don’t offer financial aid to international students. I recently learned that Berkeley as well does not offer financial aid to international students.

I will apply through an agency in the Middle East and see how that goes. I think I might be one of the top applicants in the Middle East as I don’t think people from this region are particularly good at SAT and the like.
