I am currently attending a community college, with the hope to transfer to a four year this fall. I first started CC taking welding classes, earning 30 some odd credits in 'Welding Technology.' This was more than anything for personal gain, not for a career path. After that I began taking my core classes/ general ed. classes. Well, fast forward to today, I am now on my 6th semester of CC. Looking at some of the schools that I would like to transfer to, I am beginning to get EXTREMELY worried. Take this one for example, "

"Maximum limit for considering applicants: once a student has completed more than four full semesters of college-level work, they are no longer eligible to transfer. Thus, students who already have a bachelors degree would not be eligible applicants."

Please keep in mind that my CC does offer a AAS in Welding Technology, therefore these welding classes are considered "college level" or 100 level classes. Would I be immediately disqualified from this school as a potential college transfer? Please, please, please help!

The best place for answers will be your CC’s transfer counselor’s office. They are specifically tasked with answer your exact questions and will have the methods to link you to your next school. It’s their sole job. Best of luck to you.

Are you relying on financial aid at all for your education? You should also be aware that there are limits to how many credit hours you can attempt toward your degree and still receive federal financial aid.

You cannot attempt more than 150% of the degree credit hour requirements. Financial Aid may count hours in “attempted” that aren’t counted by your Registrar’s office, like repeated courses, withdrawn/dropped courses, etc.

T26E4, I will definitely stop by my transfer counselor’s office ASAP (as in tommorow). Can you please clarify this for me,

"… and will have the methods to link you to your next school."

Does this mean that they will help me find a school that will be a match in my situation? Or does this mean that they will help me find a way to transfer into one of these schools with a two year limitation?

college_query, for the year of welding classes, I paid for out of pocket. For the, now going on two years of, core/general reqs, I did use financial aid.

Yes, your CC’s transfer counselor will be able to help you identify good places to apply to for transfer, including helping you determine whether or not the two year limitation actually applies in your case given that welding is not traditionally considered to be an “academic” subject.

You should definitely check with counselor who should be able to aid you and you might also check with praticular colleges you are interested in. Often when colleges set maximum credits you can have in college level courses to be able to transfer, they are talking about courses transferable for credit and it may be that you welding classes are not, which means those may not even count in determining how much college work you already have.
