Prompt:Sometimes it is necessary to question what people in authority claim to be true.Although some respect for authority is,no doubt, necessary in order for any group or organization to function questioning the people in charge-even if they are experts or leaders in their fields-makes us better thinkers. It forces all concerned to defend all ideas and decisions and to consider new ones.Sometimes it can even correct old errors in thought and put an end to wrong actions.

Assignment:Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?

People take regulations and statutes as unquestionable sometimes.Although there are some topics that should remain that way like, seat belt law, there are other topics that should be submitted to each person's logic and reason. This enables the incessant renovation of ides and assure that regulations remain favorable to everybody's best possible interest.Considerations of this type could also be responsible for a change in the direction of our lives from typical facts to choices we take by ourselves. The vital role of questioning is obvious in the lives of the national American activist Martin Luther King Jr. and the fictional character Beatrice from The Divergent by Veronica Roth.

Martin Luther is known for fighting for racial equality.Back then in the 1950s in southern United States the laws of segregation forced black people into the inferiority of a "second class".Black people were not allowed to sit at the front of buses, nor were they allowed to eat at lunch counters with white people. The aware activist,Martin, refused to take the laws for granted and chose to mobilize the people in a non-violent protests in an attempt to put an end to black people inferiority.Although at first white southerners held to their so-called superiority, later the government took serious action and abolish the biased rules.Today Americans, black and white,no longer suffer from any social problems, instead they collaborate for the welfare of their community.

Another example that underscores the importance of questioning the standard facts around us is Beatrice the sixteen year old girl from The Divergent novel. In the novel the community is divided into five factions of different traits that truly distinct a person.Beatrice is born not a family that embraces the faction Abnegation. In spite of this She chooses to follow her volition and embrace a different faction, Dauntless, because she is more inclined to it than she is to her family's chosen one.Beatrice refused to blindly follow her family's option, she questioned the validity of following and opted to go for what she believed in.Later on,that decision served as a source of confidence in her life and contributed to her maturity.

Considering why both Martin Luther King Jr. and Beatrice chose to question the authorities in their lives and what they attained by doing so ,their decisions were definitely valid. The lesson that surfaces here is that it is wise to use our minds to question authorities to ensure their favorability.
