Please, steer me in the right direction!

Colleges i'm considering are: Caltech, Harvard, Princeton (ED), Yale, U Penn, Cornell, U Mich, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana

Me: dual citizen of both India and America, i've lived here since i was 1. I'm 15, but i'm a rising junior because i skipped a grade.

School: I go to a school which opened my freshman year, and I've been with it and will be with it until senior year. A lot of stuff is different going to a new school, but so far i've been trying to create opportunities that i wouldn't normally get at a regular, established public school.
GPA: 4.5 (w), 3.79 (uw)
Rank: School just took away their rank system, but i know that i'm in at least the top 5% of a 650 student class.

SAT: The last one i took was in freshman year, I did pretty badly....2000. Math 720, Reading 620, Writing 660. I'm in a bunch of classes to improve that though, and the last practice test result i have is a 2200.

SAT II: Haven't taken them yet, planning to take Math II and Physics or Chemistry.

APs: Human Geography - 5; Computer Science - 4, still waiting on European History scores from this year, but probably a 5.

Future APs:
Junior Year - Chemistry, Physics, Language and Composition, Calculus BC, US History
Senior Year - US Government and Politics, Comparitive Government and Politics, Biology, Chinese, Literature, Macro, Micro, and PROBABLY Art History and Psych. Also, it doesn't count as an AP, but I will be taking a Calculus III course in conjunction with the University of Illinois as my math course in senior year.

Extra-curricular:

Science Olympiad: Extremely involved, i'm mainly an Astronomy guy, but i also do Technical Problem Solving and Protein Modeling, and whatever else my coach tells me to do. I'm co captain junior year; when the other co captain graduates, i will be the full time captain.

Math Team: Math is a passion of mine, and i've been an officer since sophomore year. Made it to state freshman year, won second at regionals freshman year, 2 of my teams won 3rd at confrence sophomore year, and that list will undoubtedly increase in size as i move to higher levels.

Scholastic/Quiz Bowl: Probably my most involved activity, started as a backup jv player in sophomore year but worked my way up to top varsity. guaranteed a captain in senior year. Part of the squad that won the 2011 Regionals, 2011 Confrence, and came 3rd place at Masonic regionals (earning us $200). Also, I earned All-Tournament Status at a 2011 Turnabout Tournament site. I've gone to a quiz bowl camp over the summer and i plan to at LEAST double my achievements by this time next year.

Tennis: I played on the team freshman year, but didn't make it sophomore year. it's pretty much a hobby for me, but i've gotten lots of coaching and will probably actually make it junior and senior year. 1 JV letter.

Volunteer work: FEA tutoring branch at my school, and Feed My Starving Children (around 40 hours in total, not much, but will increase).

Summers: Went to a nationally-renowned quiz bowl camp over sophomore year.

Other information of high importance:
My involvement with Chinese class is HUGE. Delegates from Beijing have visited out school in a program that joins American and Chinese public schools, and I was chosen as one of the few people who translated for them. It was an incredible cultural experience, and i learned a LOT about the chinese educational system and chinese culture.

I have been involved with a Chinese speech competition for kids in Illinois as well, and have recieved a gold medal for two years and counting. My gold medal streak probably won't stop, as i have won these competitions with relative ease.

Next year, I will probably earn a fully-paid scholarship to study in Taiwan over the summer, because of my speech competition skills.

PLEASE, help me figure out what my next steps should be to be on the right path towards my desired colleges! Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: I can speak English, Telugu, a bit of Hindi, and Mandarin Chinese.

ALSO, I would like to go into Astophysics, Physics, or Applied Math, but i think i'd want to minor in Chinese.

My ACT from sophomore year was a 32....i barely knew what the ACT was at the time of taking it. it's gotten even better now that i know what it actually is, though :P

Hey don’t worry I’m 16 and a rising senior. Skipped a grade as well
I would say to continue on your Chinese EC because its probably the most unique thing I’ve seen with an Indian person (I’m Indian too!). Your SATs will need to be a lot better and you need to continue building valuable experience in one or two areas. You say you have a big passion for math, but it seems you put an equal emphasis on science and a foreign language. I think you need to make more time for your Chinese EC as I see the most potential in the future with something like that. Are you looking at a possible engineering/business related career ahead? Having a couple of Indian languages and Chinese along with English puts you at a HUGE advantage over other people in your school/job pool. So improve your SAT’s and grades in the remaining time you have and continue to build upon your Chinese communication skills and I can see you as a strong competitor in all of the schools you mentioned in your thread.

Thank you! I just feel like Chinese is both a beautiful language and a rising lingua franca, so learning it has been amazing for me. Also, I know my SATs need to be better, so i’ve started some coaching programs. That SAT was from freshman year as well…a year of extremely low academic achievement for me :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m definitly looking at a career in physics, astrophysics or applied math. and, of course, i want to minor in chinese.

Don’t mention it! I agree Chinese is quite an amazing language. If I could go back and learn a foreign language, I would have chosen Chinese or Japanese. Good luck!
