Wazzup guyz
I'm currently in 7th grade, planning to go boarding to those awesome boarding high schools out there. I didn't actually start this whole thing, I just took some tests and just organized my achievements I have made during my middle school life. I just signed up for this site, so please welcome me to the new world of College Confidential.

So basically,...

What are some of the best (highly recommended w/ reason would be awesome) boarding high schools?

Also, are there specific students that they especially prefer???? Examples would be great.

VERY important there are no rankings. There are around 10-15 boarding schools that are the best u can very easily find a ranking on the main page called 25 best boarding schools or something like that. Generelly HADES (Hotchkiss,Andover,Deerfield,Exeter & SPS) and the GLAD CHEMS (Groton,Lawrenceville,Andover,Deerfied,Choate,Hotchkiss,Exeter,Milton,SPS) + Middlesex which probably should be included.

Specific students:Well rounded wich essentially means; Very good grades, Amazing SSAT/TOEFL score, good specialized and varied EC’s (politics,student government,athletics), a social person. Other advantages includes being of a distinct culture (Swedish for example^^) and not applyin’ for financial aid. Remember these schools are like the Ivies, they want ppl who will succeed and those ppl are usually not only bookworms/geeks.

I was accepted into several of these but I’ll attend Deerfield 'cause it seems like the school that is the best fit for me.

Sry but don’t listen to KC. Those three are defintely in the top 10 but you can’t say that they’re the top three because there are so many determinating factors. One year St. Paul’s may have the best stats. Next year they may be number seven. However they will NEVER slip below number ten. I think u can say that about all the schools that I listed (GLAD CHEMS + Middlesex). But there are no top three or top five. Just a top ten with very good and selective schools which will cater to every aspect of your personailty sry but that’s just how it is. And it’s not because I’m going to Deerfield but it’s based on everything I’ve read on this forum and heard from school reps etc.

DeerfieldSwede you just made the right move man

I’ve done some research and results follow that there might be some “groups” of great schools and maybe lower “groups” of good schools. Thanks, but I’ll still be aiming for E, D, A, and others as well!

Well, I’ve obviously heard that they are one of the tops of all. Also, I feel like there’s no point of going boarding if not into a great school. So, I’m looking for a school with a perfect environment, with fun types of education.

All tops boarding schools have amazing education, so don’t worry. You’ll hear people talk a lot about the right “fit” on this board, and I myself truly believes that it all comes down to the right fit since there are so many amazing schools out there. The question is, are you good enough for these schools?

Jp, people will tell you there are no top schools, but the truth is their are. HYP are the best, (but that does not mean Stanford or Dartmouth are not good) and same with boarding school(AES). But the list will always be fraud b/c someone will go to Deerfield, and not agree or Hocthkiss, etc. and think their school is the best. All of these schools are good though. Do not let us decide for you where you will be going next year. Good Luck.

“Perfect” for one person might not be “perfect” for another. Assume that most of the schools listed on [Boarding School Review](<a href=“Boarding School Search Results”>Boarding School Search Results) are going to give you a pretty good education . . . would you rather be at the school that offers crew or alpine skiing? Or perhaps horseback riding? Are you adamant that you want to study Mandarin Chinese, or are you looking for a school that offers Greek and Latin? Not every school does everything. One school will give you dozens of humanities seminars to choose from in the 11th and 12 grades. Another will offer you only “English IV” . . . along with a dizzying array of advanced mathematics seminars!

As far as I’m concerned, if you’re looking for a school with a “perfect environment” and “fun types of education,” take a look at Sedbergh in Quebec, Canada. They have mandatory dog-sledding for 9th graders!!! I’m just saying, there are lots of choices out there . . . unless all you’re really looking for is a fancy name.

@ assign, check out my other post about my achievements and chances! Take a look at my stats currently.
Thanks!

@KCcansps15, thanks!
I’ve always heard that from almost everyone, so I’m sure it’s true. Hey, are there special students each schools specifically chooses for the year? For example, a school missing some swimmers and finding for them this year? I’m not sure about this area…

@dodgersmom, long reply! hahahaaah
I agree with your words. There are a lots of choices out there, and it really depends on what I specially like. I can’t speak Latin, or Greek, so I bet I’m not applying for Groton. However, I speak 3 languages- English (as native), Korean, and Chinese. I lived in the US for about 13 years, and my family overally said that boarding would be a good choice for me. However, I’m looking for more of a well-known school, like those the other guys mentioned. Also, I’m a competitive swimmer. Are there good schools who want swimmers this year?
