I need A LOT OF FINANCIAL AID (Full-ride/Full-tuition is my goal) so I know my financial situation is what hinders my college application. I know it's better to apply to Liberal Art Colleges, but there are rarely any LAC that have business majors.... Can you guys suggest me something about my list as well as schools I need to add ? It would be best if you can suggest me which school should I ED also!
Thanks so much...

OP posted a very similar thread on July 1.

I just added my list, and also my AP score and my new major. I will post this in the international forum. Thanks!

<<<<
need A LOT OF FINANCIAL AID (Full-ride/Full-tuition is my goal) s

then take off most/all of the OOS publics…most wont give need based aid.

what is your need situation? Are you low income?

or does your family have a good income, but cant pay much or anything?

that answer will determine where you should apply.

UVA and (maybe still) UNC meet need for OOS students.

The rest of the OOS publics will give little/nothing for need based aid.

Some OOS publics will give you merit, but maybe not the ones on your list…or not enough.

oh…wait, you’re an intl? I dont think any of the publics that you listed will give you aid.

We need you to provide more info.

@mom2collegekids:
Yes, I’m an intl. What more information do you need? I have searched in the thread “Competitive Scholarships” and they are all in the list. I know that if I want a lot of aid, I should apply to lots and lots of LACs. However, they don’t have the major I want …

I put Qs in my earlier post…

what is your need situation? Are you low income?

or does your family have a good income, but cant pay much or anything? how much can they pay each year?

that answer will determine where you should apply.

also take off UVA and UNC…they dont give aid to intls.

some, many, may not award those to intls. Do they require an on campus interview? And for the competitive huge awards that will award to intls, your stats would have to come up a lot. The competition is huge.

Alabama has a good business school, and it will award you full tuition for your stats…even as an intl. The app is online now, so you could apply and have an acceptance and big award within weeks. The award is assured for your stats.

http://cba.ua.edu/

and since you are Vietnamese…if you are Catholic, it may interest you to know that there is a lovely Catholic Church right on Alabama’s campus grounds with an active student group.

@mom2collegekids:
Yes, my mom is the only one who supports me with my tuition. And she is going to retire in the next 2 months, so she couldn’t afford much.
I really want full-ride, so I could help her. What should I improve in my stats so that I can stand a chance in other scholarships? I know I need to improve my SAT I, and I’m working hard to score above 2300.

Ok…I will ask again…

how much can she pay?

The problem is this…even a so-called full ride will not be one for an intl because intls have add’l costs…intl travel, personal expenses, insurance, misc costs…which at a minimum will be $7k+

full rides typically cover tuition, room, board, books. They dont usually cover personal expenses, travel, insurance, etc. That will be a problem for you if your mom cant cover those extra costs…and you have to show that you have them covered ahead of time so that your visa can be issued. You cant earn that once you are here.

a full tuition award wont likely be enough unless your mom will pay the add’l $20k+ per year for room, board, books, fees, travel, insurance, and personal expenses.

Did you even read my post on your previous thread, @Libellula97?

@mom2collegekids :
She can pay for at most $10,000.
@International95:
Yes, thanks for your comprehensive post. I did look at the thread you told me and I remembered you suggested me take a look at LACs, which I did. But I’m confused as a lot of LACs don’t have my major…

I’m sorry, @Libellula97, but if you want to go to an American college with financial aid, it is highly possible that you will have to make compromises (check out F&M and Dickinson – both offer business majors). I know many internationals who wanted to study engineering but settled for physics when they realized it would be nearly impossible to get into Northwestern or Brown with aid. I know at least two who went on to get PhDs in engineering, and the rest of them liked physics so much that they pursued PhDs in them. Just study math and economics at LACs? It will do the trick for getting jobs in consulting and all (and perhaps finance too).

After rethinking, I understand and agree with you! Thank you so much International95! It’s more important for me to have a lot of aid than sacrifice the chance of getting into a good college! I will research about my list again and after updating my future list, I hope you can help me review it!
Thanks a lot!

There only 6 need blind colleges that meet full need for international students. None of them are on your list. As an international student, it will be hard enough for you to get in. Applying for aid will hurt your chances even more. Look t schools like Amherst, Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. Even though they are insanely selective for international students, they will give you the aid you need.

It’s fine to not apply to any of those need-blind schools as long as you apply to over 15+ need-aware but full-need schools.

Are u enrolled in a HS in the US? Or are u enrolled at an int’l school overseas?

Is there an EducationUSA center u can visit?

@GMTplus7 : yes I’m currently a boarding student in the US
@collegebound752: Thank you so much!

I’m considering Mount Holyoke, Grinnell, Reed, and Swarthmore. Do you guys think those schools are suitable for me?
