Im an international student and want to pursue Civil Engineering. I just wanted to know a few reach and high matches schools for me ( ik there are a lot of college sites available but all of them offer me with different suggestions hus end up confusing me :P)
My stats are as follows ::
ACT – 29C ( 24R 33M 29S 31W)
SAT – 1830 ( wont report )
GPAs : class 9- 9.0/10
Class 10 – 9.2/10
Class 11 -55% ( school highest was 60%) – school uses certain protocols for marking in eleventh that makes scoring high really tough. They do mention this on the official transcripts issued.
Class 12 – 94% ( predicted score received from school)
Also, my school is ranked 2nd best in my country according to Wikipedia.

Please help me out with shortlisting a few colleges. Also , what does my application lack at this point of time?
RPI. I’m not sure that your application lacks anything in particular. You will just have to pull it all together and demonstrate that your verbal skills in English are sufficient for an American curriculum. (Your writing on this thread is fine, though your ACT reading score, for example, is relatively low, as you would be aware of.)
You are international without great stats, you won’t get aid from the UCs. Also, as you evaluate college costs, know that you almost certainly will have to purchase the school health insurance plan as part of your costs. It doesn’t often show up in the net price calculators, but runs between about $1,500-$2,000 per year.
A score of at least 7.0 on the IELTS will serve you well. UCs strong in engineering include UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB and UCI. I do not know the UC system well enough to estimate your admissions chances at these schools. For engineering within a complete university or college environment, also consider the University of Rochester and Union College.
Regarding your chances, most colleges in the US are not need-blind for internationals. So yes, needing aid limits your chances at those schools. And some that may admit you don’t meet need for internationals, so you may get in, but not get any or enough aid. You might look at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. It is within your budget, although your scores may not be high enough for admission to engineering.
Your scores are in range overall for Texas A&M, but I am not sure what they expect from international students vs. in-state students for scores, that is hard to determine. Your cost as an OOS student there appears to be about $43,000, and I am sure you will need to pay a couple thousand more for insurance. Plus your travel costs will be higher than they estimated, probably also by a couple thousand dollars. So you could easily end up at more like $47,000, and the cost will go up each year.
Purdue charges higher tuition for internationals, so around $44,000 – adding those extra costs, you are probably looking at around $48,000. Again… your test scores are in range, but Purdue is also a state school. They do have a history of admitting full pay internationals. But there is no point in saying you are full pay if you can’t actually afford it.
Someone with expertise in the UCs could answer that better than I could. I think you are probably on the low end of the applicant pool, your test scores are not great. And I have no idea how they would calculate your GPA by their standard, but I am guessing that 11th grade year would be a problem. The cost would be around $57,000 per year, too.
Your grades and SAT score may get you into UC Merced, UC Riverside and UC Santa Cruz. I really do not see your chances that good for the rest of the UC’s as an OOS applicant. As myself and a few other posters indicated, your costs will be over $200K for the 4 years. A pretty high price to pay for the UC’s.
