Please tell me if you think I'll get in or not.

First of all, thanks.

I applied to NYU regular decision toward the beginning of December, maybe late November. Of course, I'm not expecting a letter anytime soon (yet I check the mail every day). I'm really desperate. Okay.

Some statistics:

GPA: 3.7/4.0 Unweighted or 3.8 Weighted. Weighted is calculated by multiplying Honors classes by 1.1 and AP classes by 1.15. I have a pretty good upward trend
But I recalculated my Unweighted GPA using the NYU method (don't count electives or gym), and it was a 3.63/4.0
SAT/ACT: 2210 (CR 740, M 720, W 750) / 33
SAT II: Physics 770, Math I 700, US History 720
Rank: 43/377 or 11.41%

I'm plain old White, and I'm especially worried because a lot of well-qualified kids are applying from my school, at least two of whom are minorities.

Also, I only took one AP class last year, US History (I received a 4 on the exam). I tried to compensate for that this year by taking 5 APs

I'm also worried because I was suspended halfway through my freshman year twice (though one was for making a snow angel)

Application:
My essay isn't incredible, and it's sort of cliche. I'd give it 6/10
My supplemental questions were pretty good. 7.5/10 maybe
My recommendations are probably awesome. The teachers I asked adore me.
My counselor recommendation is probably decent. I don't know my counselor too well, but I don't think he hates me or anything.

Extracurriculars:
Photo Club, Art Club, GSA, Youth Court (actual trials--not mock trials), a Catholic church group (even though I'm agnostic), two school musicals (junior year and senior year), 10 years of Tae Kwon Do (1st degree black belt), 9 years of playing percussion, National Honor Society, and previously in Spanish Honor Society and Tri-M (couldn't fit Spanish or Wind Ensemble this year)

Community Service:
200 hours of community service at a camp, 30 hours of community service at an animal shelter, some 4-H fairs

Awards/Other Stuff:
Outstanding on a Level 6 NYSSMA Percussion ensemble, 27/28 on a Level 4 NYSSMA Snare Drum Solo, Student of the Quarter (schoolwide award), Excellence in Physics (schoolwide award)

And physics is my intended major.

What do you think? I think my chances are about 50% right now. I feel like my GPA and rank are bringing me down.

Are you applying to CAS?

I think you have a very good chance at both CAS and Stern. For CAS, your GPA is right in line with the class and SAT scores will be above average. I doubt the rank will kill you. I think you have a great shot, best of luck.

Thanks for your response and the kind words. I just wanted an unbiased opinion, since everyone who has given me one so far knows me too well to say anything negative. Oh, and I applied to CAS.

If you applied to CAS… then you’re in. I got in with lower stats

someone got rejected with a 2300. i got rejected with an 1800. so idk its kind of a toss up, or theyre looking for a certain sumthin. i think they want someone who is interested in the arts and diff subjects even though they may be applying to politics, lets say. but idk. altho i think u have a good chance : ]

youre definately in for cas but for stern, i think itd be a reach.

@ babygrl9205

The person who got rejected with a 2300 applied to Stern which is very competitive and had little EC’s. An 1800 is significantly lower than the average SAT at NYU in general so NO, it is not really a toss up.

greenspring - you’re in :D
