please tell me my chances of getting into university of texas austin

I am completely going out of mind about whether or not I will get accepted into UT. Everyone says I have a good chance but I'm not top ten percent and my SAT scores are low. I am also in state. I would really appreciate any input!

Unweighted gpa: 3.83
Weighted gpa: 4.63

SAT: Reading 610
Math 570
Writing 580

Class rank: 53 out of 506
top 11%

Activities and awards:
Young artists apprenticeship program
Church
Logo art design competition honorable mention
AP Scholar
National honor society
Radioshack scholar
Superintendent scholar
Academic society
Volunteering at hospital
Working

AP classes taken/taking: Calc AB, World History, Environmental Science, English language, calc BC, Biology, U.S. History, Psychology, Chemistry, Microeconomics, English literature, Government, Art 2-D. So 13 AP classes taken in all.

I took Calculus BC when I was a junior in high school so I don't know if that is anything special.

thanks!!

I'm not too familier with the University of Texas, Austin. But, it's a fairly competitive national university right?

G.P.A. good. Rank is fine. SAT might be a bit low.

Church itself shouldn't be listed as an activity unless you held a position for the church, etc.

AP test scores?

I think you have a good chance.

thank you for replying so quickly! As far as I know, it is a pretty competitive national university.

I put church only because I've been actively involved in the youth group since I was like 7/ did a lot of volunteering work with them, so I don't know if that counts. Thanks for letting me know about that though.

My ap scores pretty much suck except for
U.S History-4
Psychology-3
English language-3

Those scores are decent I think...

The rest I can safely say I did not pass/take. I didn't send my ap scores so I don't know if that is a big factor, though they might have gotten access to them from else where.

Oh, church definetely counts then. It's good.

Intentionally not reporting your AP scores is bad. Submitting low scores is also bad. Below-three AP scores=not good.

oh.. I wasn't intentionally not reporting my AP scores. It wasn't a requirement and I didn't think there was an option for it. I thought you submit scores after you get accepted so you can figure out how much credit you get?

I assumed...

Some applications have a section that lists AP scores. If UT's didn't then that's fine.

I'd say you have around a ~90% chance of getting in. That sucks that you're almost in the top ten percent (automatic admission to UT).

You're in. Probably not into your preferred major or college (e.g. engineering or business), but your stats are definitely good enough to get you into the university.

I don't know. Your SAT scores are pretty low. And, it's pretty hard to get in when you're not top ten percent.

I put my preferred major as nursing which I probably won't get though. Second choice was biology.
I think my low SAT scores might really mess up my chances of getting into UT.

you took AP cal BC and you did that bad in SAT math? Anyways, i think u should increase your SAT score at least to 1800. If you don't, I think you have about 50/50 chance.

yup. I just suck at taking the SATs I guess.

I think it is too late to raise my SAT score. Thanks for your honesty.

You will get in...here is part of an article from the Austin American Statesman from last week:

A 2006 study by Princeton University researchers in the Journal of Higher Education found no evidence to support the brain drain anecdotes. Almost invariably, the study noted, students in the top 11 percent to 20 percent of their class who specified either UT or A&M as their top choice enrolled there the following fall.

thanks guys but I got rejected basically. Got CAPed.

that's too bad, you were just 2 people out of it as well. I agree with everyone else in the thread I thought you would get in.

You got rejected???
sorry!
Everyone thinks UT is so easy to get into, but its not...
only if you make top 10%, but otherwise I really think its very competitive.
best of luck maybe you can go to SMU, Rice, TCU, A&M or something..Baylor even...right?

From Dallas, Best of Luck

I was wondering the same thing, if I will get it.
UT is my number one school and I really really need to get in
I have a 91.5 average/ 100 which is like a 3.75 or 3.8
I got a 2080/2400 on my sat 1370/1600
I have a 600 and a 630 on SATII’s
I have many after school activities
Yet i am out of state
Please let me know if you think I have a shot

right now i am going to be a senior in high school and ended up with an average gpa of 3.3 but i always keep a’s and b’s no matter what… does anyone think i have a good shot at it?

You actually have to be in the top 7% to get into UT now if you’re in state.

^No, it’s 9% this year. The figure changes each year. Last year it was 8%.
