Have there been any Plebes go home?

Word from my DI just tonight - not yet. She thinks there may be a couple that may not stay after Indoc is over, but no one has left yet. They only lost one girl last year during Indoc and one boy after Indoc ended. So she's hopeful they won't loose anybody.

However, she did mention that there were 2 that tested positive for drugs. One boy and one girl. Now it's in the hands of the Administration as to what will happen for them - whether they will be kicked out or set back with a chance to clean up their acts.

'Zounds. After all it takes to get through congressional stuff, Dodmerb, forms, wisdom teeth, and all the rest of that junk.... What a blinking shame!

Glad I'm not in Administration.

Any update on if any candidates didn't make it to Plebe Candidate status, or elected NOT to begin the academic year?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there were a few who didn't make it through indoc for various reasons including medical and personal (quit).

How many is 'a few'? I'm new here, but have heard at all the academies that some elect NOT to continue. And that's fine, disappointing but fine. If it's NOT a match NOW (during INDOC), then it is not likely to endear itself more once the academic rigors kick in.

Is the number higher, lower, or about the same as the past few years?

Side note: Thanks WYTL for the extra photos and the video clips! Gave us a chance to 'be there' some more..

so, are there any final numbers here? How many are left? I think the initial incoming number was 279.

I heard thru the grapevine that this class (2011) has had the fewest dropouts during indoc in many years. Three dropped out, 3 left due to medical reasons, and I haven't heard any more about the 2 that tested positive.

son said 1 due to eyesight (medical), one due to testing positive. also one due to discipline issue.

My son said that the 2 who tested positive were given there disenrollment papers yesterday by the Commander.

The total currently stands at -8 for 2011. 2 Medical - Color Blind, 2- Medical - Injuries, 2 - Drugs, 2 - Requested disenrollment.

Talked to my son last night AIM and he was a little upset. He befriended one of the terminees and he felt a sense of unfairness with her termination. He explained her story and it was a strange tale. I told him that he must trust the system - that the Academy must know something they don't and they may never know in order to protect her. It is sad, however, according to him, she worked very hard and was very, very nice. You just never know.

MMAMom,
I understand how your son must feel. It is difficult to share hardships, form bonds and then have to say goodbye to close friends. Sadly there will be others. As the academic year moves forward setbacks and disenrollments are inevitable. I can remember my son looking at a photo of himself and a bunch of his friends having a ball in NYC. He then became very quiet and reflective. He said "this is a really depressing picture...... there are only 3 of us left."
The administrtion take every one of these decisions very seriously. As many have said on this forum, this Academy, and the plebe year in particular, is an emotional roller coaster. The good times are incredibly good , the bad times unbeliveably bad. That's what make this place and their experiences so unique.

Hate to say it but that girl did not belong at the Academy. Everyone can tell a great story when they are being kicked out of school. That girl tested positive for a VERY illegal drug and deserved to be kicked out.

Son said another left this week :(, although I don't know if it's from 4th co. specifically or from class of 2011 -- he sounded like a Long Islander.

I imagine that would have to be toughest on these kids. My son's hundreds of miles away from everything he's ever seen. It would be tougher knowing that all your buddies are nearby, and the movie theaters are there, and knowing all the great places to play or hang out, etc.

I know this happens every year, but it must drive Admin nuts - Every kid they extend an appointment to has the ability to graduate. I'm sure they'd like all these P/Cs to do it. They have always got to wonder if the kid that just missed the cutoff WOULD have stuck it out. (selection meetings must just be phenomenally difficult).

This should be left between the PC's and their families. These are very personal and private matters and should not be for public comment.

It is also a waste of taxpayer money. Kids who go to any of the service academies and drop out within the first few weeks have still taken alot of money. I wonder if they could make those who were involuntarily disenrolled repay the money. Sure would make sense to me.

Carrol Oconner
ARCHIE BUNKER
droipped out of USMMA
to become a seaman

He became a pretty successful guy
funny too
so there is life without Kings Point

I dont think PLEBES should be charged for falling out

kp2001 - I kinda agree w prouddad, a kid who has to leave because he does not pass the color blind test is not at fault. And sometimes people have second thoughts - you made a mistake; none of the SA's have a perfect admission process. I am sure w all of the effort it takes to get in, and all of the attention these young adults receive during HS graduation season about their accomplishment, they must go through an emotional nightmare as they are processed out - be it voluntary or involuntary.

i've seen this happen a few times. most of them never wanted to be here in the first place, thus they don't want to stick it out, don't want to try, etc... they come typically because they're pressured by parents or whatever. the first thing i tell anyone when they're considering this place is do it for you, not for your parents. if you do it for them, you won't make it. you have to want it for yourself. it's a shame.
