Plebes Looked No Worse for Wear

Saw colors and the lunch muster.

The ravioli was OK. The pudding with the cookie crumbs left much to be deired.

two days ago on AIM I ask, "what did you have for lunch?"- s says "chicken"; I say "what's for dinner?" and s says "same as lunch w gravy on top." So, no more questions about meals.

I was told after I asked, "How's the food?" He said, "It is SOOOO bad on SOOO MANY LEVELS!" I guess I didn't cook all that bad, after all! He did lose 10 lbs during indoc!!

face it folks

this is institutional food

from 5 gallon cans
and frozen 25 lb plastic bags

its basic slop

hard work and little choice
make it edible

it wont hurt them in anyway
it makes other foods taste
that much better

in most cases
i think theyll get much better fare
on the ships they man

Pudding with the cookie crumbs? Gee, I dunno LFWBDad... Was it canned or powdered stuff? :D

bad food.......welcome to kp.....food on my ship is much better than school but have heard of worse food than school

When we last spoke to our son on Sunday, we asked so what did you eat and the response....okay I am not going to write the response.....so I think you all understand. I guess when he comes home my cooking isnt going to be so bad. So there is an upside to all of this.

LFWB says that after being on the Russian training ship MIR the food at Delano is like eating at the Palm.

Yikes. Hardtack & saltpork or something? :D

moms

this might be a crusher

but leave it to proudad
to
be the crusher

and other mariners
will surely disagree

but
sometimes
when you are doing exactly
what you love
when you are in the company
of mates who are equally happy
when the ocean turns
from glue to green
and a port unknown
breaks the horizon
the trip is truly
a voyage

and food isnt secondary
its subsistence
and almost meaningless

BLUE to green
sorry

After a really tough inspection.... You really want to enjoy a satisfying meal.

Plebe Candidate wrote: *Food today was pathetic. We had some weird Mexican rice w/ chicken. Except the chicken was still on the bone, in the yellow rice, and some of the bones had shattered/broken. Yes, first bite and I bite into bone shards. I then just ate a salad. *

He almost NEVER complains. This must have been a real low-water mark. Hmmmm. Maybe they need to inspect the kitchen and pantry.
No surprise, but a little disappointing nonetheless. Yuck.

My son wrote me that because of inspection and other commitments he had no breakfast or lunch, so he rushed off to dinner..........dear Lord I hope his supper was boneless or it may be another night of power bars.

Refer back to TMRs scary post near the beginning of this thread...

"What did you have for dinner? "

"Same thing as lunch, but with gravy"

So, another helping of Mexican Shattered-Chicken-Thigh over yellow rice.... and gravy anyone? Yum Yum.

I just spent a ton of money for food at KP during Parent's Weekend (like the rest of you!) and I'm wondering if I should bring a PB & J in my purse. (Do you think we will be searched?)

kath

my experience is that
sometimes you get great sunsets
and no sunrises
sometimes great weather
and bad company
sometimes the best times of life
arent perfect

you just spent money to
be with with your
great kid
and eat some pretty
bad food

been there
will be again this year

these kids are smart enough
to ignore the food
and soak up the education

they are toughened

you can and should
grin and bear it

well worth the other
parts of kp experience
they are ok
and eating this stuff

dont worry
you only need to eat it once a year

Like I told you Zonker - at about 7pm I asked him how was dinner... "fine"; interpretation, "Dad, you really do not need to ask anymore."

its frozen hot turkey n gravy
its cold cuts from sysco
its bagged salad
its boiled chicken
with bbq sauce

its very very common
not as is in usual
common as in dirt

a step below acceptable
a step above detention center

nobody should ever have to pay for it
but to sit with your kid
in big hall
its worth it

and sheet cake was ok
