stong points:
I aspire to bring democracy to china, and I don't think an immediate revolution would actually work for china. I believe people must be properly educated to get ready for the democracy, and therefore I did the following:
•Campaign for Democratic China: founder & editor-in-chief during summer of a newpaper aiming to educate people on some controversial topics. Maybe its more like a revolutionary pamplet than a newspaper. Spent like 20ish hour per week for 6 weeks. Got 100,000 Yuan(15,000USD) donations. Unlike other pamphlet of the kind, I kept the point of view of each article neutral because it's main purpose is to educate. My job was to recruite writers and ensure neutraliy of views of each article before publication. And this is obviously illegal according to chinese laws.
•"Young's heart" program: the chinese education system often ignores the psychological development of children. so many of kids from unprivileged family tend to believe that it is their destiny to be poor and they don't even attempt to make changes when they grow up. So i found this organization to correct such notions. First, i tried to register it as a NGO, but due to the goverments bureaucracy, failed. Then, I went to like 20 companies/organizations trying to make it an affiliated organization. It worked, but no one would fund this program. Eventually, I raised like 3,000yuan(500USD) for this at the end of summer, but didn't start to do anything yet. Guess I will make some progress on this during christmas when i go back to china. Ah, this is legal :)

So, here is my concern.

Should I even include my work on democratic movement in my college application? I know it is the right thing to do but it is not legal in china.

And please chance me, I will chance back
Thanks in advance

You GPA and SATs (as of now at least) are sub-par to HYP. Also, because you are a Chinese male, your chances of getting into HYP are quite low. You have too many colleges on your list. Unless you can handle that many applications, you should cut it down to 8-10.

“Should I even include my work on democratic movement in my college application? I know it is the right thing to do but it is not legal in china.” - What does this even mean? You are scared of “including” your democratic movement in your college application because it is “not legal?” If it was not legal how were you going about doing it? I really don’t understand why you wouldn’t put that on your application, and I think you already know that.

For your “Young Heart’s Program” you said you raised 500 USD to use the next time you visit China. Where did you get the money from? Did you go door-to-door or did you have you parents give you 500$? Isn’t a two-week trip for you alone to China 5,000USD+?

I am not trying to criticize you. I am just trying to tell you that adcoms probably see a lot of students (especially rich, Asian males applying to HYPSCM) post apocryphal “ECs” to help solidify admission. I would imagine they are turned off by these types of applicants. Try not to fall into this category.

Regardless, good luck on your applications!

Don’t write about bringing democracy to China. Chances are, the person reading your application will be that one Chinese Zedong nationalist in the admissions office. Keep politics out of your essays.

As of right now you have no chance at any of the ivies or any of the other elite schools, your GPA is subpar and SAT score is low at least for now that is, you will need to bring both up to give yourself a shot.
