You did not tell us the most important factor: how much can you afford? All these schools are in the $60,000+ per year range. UCB and UCLA don’t give financial aid to people from outside of California.

Slimmer chance than most applicants for ivy/Stanford/MIT and the selection rate is 5-10% depending on school. Lot of variance in the Ivy’s on competitiveness, atmosphere, academics, etc.

Unless you improve your SAT score all those schools remain out of your reach (depending on how impacted is your major of choice which you did not specified)!

As other posters stated, the schools you have listed are high reaches. What do you want to major in? How much can you pay a year? Once you give us the answers to these questions, we’ll be able to suggest some schools that you’ll have decent chances of getting into.

@katliamom @mohchan360
If i get financial aid that is good but it is not a problem as such…
And major = computer engineering

Assuming you don’t need financial aid, I would say your chance for UCB or UCLA are less than 15% because that’s about the acceptance rate for international students at these schools.

Your chances for MIT and most Ivies are even smaller. These schools reject more than 90% of their applicants, most of whom are qualified.

To increase your chances, you need to apply to schools that are less popular with international students, schools that are still very, very good but perhaps don’t have the international name recognition of a Berkeley or MIT. Google, look through rankings and target schools in the top 20-top 100 range.

Some other schools that are strong in Computer Engineering that you’d have a strong chance of getting into are:

University of Texas at Austin
Purdue Unuversity
Virginia Tech
UC San Diego
University of Wisconsin
Northeastern University
Texas A&M
Cal Poly SLO
University of Maryland College Park
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
Penn State University Main Campus
Rutgers University New Brunswick

@katliamom Thanks… I wud improve my sat and apply at safety schools including the top ones…
@mohchan360 Thanks for the list…

are you taking a gap year?

@damn I guess it would be a gap year by American standards, but Indian students usually start Kindergarten at age 4, so the OP is probably the same age as most rising HS seniors.

@mohchan360 bro, I’m an Indian myself, I don’t think that taking a gap year would get you admitted in any top school. I have done research and you must apply when you are in your senior year, i.e 12th grade.

@damn As long as you aren’t applying as a transfer student, college admissions is the same whether you take a gap year or not.
