Poli Sci Graduation Reqs./Gen Ed Courses

uclari, which class would you recommend more: ps 6 or stats 10? (what is the purpose of the number following the name of the class)

highly recommend ps6. or better yet, take PS6R if u can (combined course with PS50R). it's integrated with poli sci for all the mathphobic people out there, and the stuff u learn is good for an academic or professional career.

because a department has a lot of courses so the numbers distinguish them.

even if i minor in poli sci should i still take ps6 or stats?

Yes. Being able to use stats with some proficiency will help you in almost any endeavor.

OO hey, ur minoring in Political Science? I am too.
So for a minor, I can basically take only upper division classes that I'm interested right wheras for a major, I have to take some classes that covers issues I'm not particularly interested in?

for the poli sci minor, u need to take 2 lower div poli sci classes and 5 upper divs.

remember that some upper divs have pre-reqs that correspond to the lower div, so plan out your 2 lower divs according to what you plan to take for your upper divs.

ps 6 (stats) is not required for the minor but is an option for the 2 lower divs.

arg...so now i have to look at the upper division courses im interested in and look up the pre-reqs....

ooo thanks for bringing that up

the third poli sci minor posting in a row thanks you for that reminder. it does make things difficult, especially since poli sci classes are hard to get into anyway.

too bad im in my lazy mood right now and ill be doing that much later. haha

namaste,

They are?

for freshmen this quarter they were. by orientation 101, all the LD poli sci courses were filled. so at the rate things are going i'm going to wait till sophomore or junior year to start poli sci.

That's because orientation slots are late. Don't assume that your slots will be just as bad later on.

Besides, you can still try to get in on a waitlist or beg your way in.

when did you take your first poli sci course

I was a transfer, so my situation was quite different.

Still, don't worry too much. You have many quarters ahead of you.

oh you were at pierce?

lower div poli sci classes fill up incredibly quick. i have priority registration and didnt get to take a poli sci class until 2nd year.

... but i do know there were freshmen who took lower div poli sci classes during their winter and spring quarters.

kfc4u,

Y'know, I had no problem getting into PS10 at a late orientation. Then again, it WAS a theory class...

oh... ps10 is always open for orientations!

but ps20 and ps40 are always immediately full

im just going to hope whatever lower div poli sci course i take will lead to an upper div i want.
