Police brutality at Wesleyan

follow this story - it will develop heavily, i assure you.

Why will this story develop heavily? Because they shot/gassed/tazed the kids instead of using the batons to manually beat some sense into them? If those kids are still dumb enough to not know that you don't mess with the police (especially after they've been telling you to disperse for 30 minutes and people have thrown bottles at police cars), maybe this extreme form of negative reinforcement is the only way they'll figure it out.

i feel no pity for them

'Police brutality'? Are you serious? How about 'Student Idiocy'?

The police arrived, students threw a bottle at a police car, the police stood around for 45 minutes trying to break up the party, asked students to leave over the loudspeaker (which the students ignored), and some student set off a smoke bomb amid the police cars. One student kicked a police car so hard it made a permanent dent; another turned up the music even louder after the police asked them to break it up and quiet down.

How is this a case of "police brutality" when the students continuously desregarded and disobeyed the cops and damaged police property?

From everything I've heard, the smoke bomb came from the police...

Also, a source I know who I trust says that the police spent most of that time just standing around, not actually telling the students they wanted the party to break up; he claims it was very unclear what was going on. I've heard mixed reports on that front, though, and the students obviously should have left when teh police cars started coming, but IMO the police used more force than they should of...it basically just seems like everyone was behaving badly (escept for the Wes PSafe).

I tell ya, the ppl who should really be upset about this are Middletown's bar owners. Anything that deters traffic to and from downtown is bad for them.

A quote from wesleying:

Student was attacked by a dog on the living room floor of a friend's house. Knocked to the ground, begging police to get dog off, the police hit his head, started bleeding, still didn't call the dog off.

This report is unconfirmed, but if it is ttrue, I don't care how stupid the students were being, this is not an appropriate police response.
