Hi! I've just been accepted into Stanford, and am really excited!

I know there's often a stereotype of Stanford being a more science-oriented school...
Does anyone how good their Political Science and International Relations departments are? Perhaps, when compared to schools like Yale?

As a potential social science major, I generally detested schools with any one focus - even if that focus was in my potential fields. Although Stanford excels in engineering and CS, I didn’t get the feeling that it was overly focused on those two fields. Its public image does seem to revolve around CS (and sports…), but I didn’t get the feeling that was a focus within the undergraduate community.

The International Relations department is one of the absolute best in the world
(Not that I completely believe the validity ofj rankings) but Foreign Policy consistently rates Stanford in the top 10 undergraduate IR programs in the US. In 2009, Stanford was ranked number 4. It also has the #3 PhD program in IR

The political science department is also highly respected.

If you wanted to compare to Yale, I would personally say both are better at Stanford.
A great advantage is having the Hoover Institute on campus. Though very conservative (I don’t know how you personally lean), but they certainly are experts in the field. Many times they will teach an undergrad class

Hi, Congrats on your acceptance to Stanford. I know someone who was also very much interested in doing IR at Stanford but could not get in. I was curious to know what are the stats for the candidates who were accepted. I would appreciate if you could share that with me. Thanks.
