Political extracurricular bias?

Hello, if I hold an officer position in my school’s Republicans club, will political bias of admission officers hurt my application chances? Is it better to not report?

I should hope not!

That said, they are looking for diversity. If you are a straight white conservative male…that’s not quite the pinnacle of diversity. If you are a different race, gender, sexual orientation, or any form of minority, then being republican would be more interesting.

If you are concerned you could just write, “Officer in (name of high school) political club.”

Don’t worry about it. If the admission officers are biased towards you because of your political beliefs you probably don’t want to go there anyways. Many universities nowadays look for political conservatives from rural America as they are part of the minority population in left leaning universities so it may even help you.

Republican? No, no bias. Schools want diverse students who will be engaged, and they need students for all organizations, not just College Democrats.

Agree, colleges want a diversity of students and that includes different political views. Unless you are a member of some crazy fringe/offensive group (which the Republican Club certainly is not) then politics should not factor into admissions decisions. And on the extremely remote chance that there is one school that doesn’t want a Republican on campus – well that probably isn’t the right school for you anyway.
