<p>My son is interested in policy and government and we are likely to be choosing between Northeastern and American. American came up short on financial aid so I am trying to rationalize Notheastern given his interests. My specific question is whether anyone can speak to Northeastern's co op opportunities in the government / political science arena (specifically D.C. based). I am under the impression that the co op is strongest in the areas of business, engineering, and communications and I am concerned that he'll wind up in a law firm doing insignificant work.</p>
<p>There are a lot of co-ops in DC (big ones I know of are DoD and DIA, but there are plenty others). Plus you are always allowed to do your own co-ops/internships not directly hooked with Northeastern. For instance, the CIA has co-ops but you’d have to apply to them directly. There are also some in environmental places, NGOs, etc.</p>
<p>There aren’t that many politically-based co-ops, like working for a senator or something, just because those jobs are often much harder to get and more “you know someone”. But I’ve known people who contacted their home state representative and got an internship. Northeastern typically has a co-op set up within Massachusetts like that, but I don’t know if we have any that go to DC.</p>
