Michelec,

You might want to check this out: http://www.apsanet.org/section_516.cfm

Hope it helps

Hey thanks for the awesome link :) :)

Hi, I was wondering how strong the polysci departments at the Ivies are also. It would be great if someone could enlighten me. :)

Harvard is arguably #1 in Political Science. Yale and Princeton are usually considered top 5. Columbia is generally ranked among the top 10. Cornell, Penn and Brown are also excellent and Dartmouth is also good. So, if I were to rate the Ivies for Political Science, here's how I would go about it:

1 Harvard University (#1 nationally)

2 Yale University (top 5 nationally)

3 Princeton University (top 5 nationally)

4 Columbia University (top 10 nationally)

5 Cornell University (top 15 nationally)

6 University of Pennsylvania (top 25 nationally)

7 Brown University (top 25 nationally)

8 Dartmouth College (good)

Thanx, now I know where my calling in life will lead me and I now have no choice but to strive to get into HARVARD. :P

I know you are kidding, but I must add that any of the Ivies will give you an excellent foundation in Political Science.

hi there, does somebody knows how good are the Government and IR programs at Clark University and Franklin and Marshall College?

oh, and also, how does the major "International Development and Social Change" sound to you - applicable? profitable? or just general stuff?
thanx in advance

If you want to know about how good the major "International Development and Social Change" is, you should read the program of studies at the college offering it and find out what courses are offered under that major. Most colleges have a copy of their program of studies online.

Hello. I'd like to know if there's a reliable ranking on undergrad political science programs?

Thanks!

MicheleC,
Pol. Sci. doesn't apply just at the national level. I know someone with a master's in Pol. Sci. who is a city manager.

thats awesome to know! thanks timely

GEORGETOWN is the best if you want to do anything related to Politics/Government

I agree that Georgetown has a great program. However, it is not necessarily the best. You can't rule out Yale or the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton. There isn't a best, just a bunch of great schools.

the poly-sci major is so hot right now so its really hard to find the "best"....a really "hot" school for it is washington university in st. louis, a liberal arts college is also a great place for poly sci simply because most students go to those schools so they can go to grad school.....keep ur eyes open and dont be so focused on ivy (remember Clinton went to georgtown and hillary went to Wellesley for example, and colin powell besides military experience went to the city college of new york)

Does anybody know the rankings or at least have some idea of the following schools that have political science programs (UCD, UCSD, UCSB, UCSC)?

Colin P also got a masters from GW.

UCSD then UCD, not sure about UCSB and UCSC

Question for anyone:

I have applied to transfer to UVa (find out in about 15 days!) and I am also in the midst of a major change (architecture to poli sci). Right now I am at Ohio State and was wondering if I get into UVa if I should stay here (OSU) or transfer...because I don't give much context just answer based on the strengths of the respective programs. I've been hearing that OSU's poli sci is ranked in the top 10 nationally, but I am sure that UVa can't be too far behind. Any comments?

In response to the poly sci department at Kenyon-- it is excellent, though I wouldn't claim it was the "best in the nation". The poly sci page on the Kenyon website only lists a few courses that the department offers, I guarantee there are many many more courses in the actual course catalog.
While Kenyon may have less course opportunities than a larger university, they offer a very focused major with great professors and opportunites.

Johnny Hopkins! woot!
