Politically Conservative at NU?

I got accepted (YAY!), but one of my college books says that Northwestern kids are conservative future capitalist g-ds or something like that. Is that true? Anyone currently AT Northwestern want to comment? I'm generally liberal and want to know if I'd be unwelcome in a Republican majority. Anyone heard anything?

bump! someone please...

Northwestern is one of the more conservative colleges. However, there are still more liberals than conservatives.

I highly suggest that you look here:

<a href="http://www.livejournal.com/community/northwestern/97013.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.livejournal.com/community/northwestern/97013.html</a></p>

A very conservative college campus votes 60% for Democrats. A liberal campus votes 90%+ for Democrats.

Other factors that affect a colleges political label is the relative activity of liberals and conservatives on campus.

Northwestern probably falls on the statistical conservative side, but politics is not particularly big on campus.

I would not say NU is a (socially) conservative school by any means. In November, there were many more pro-Kerry t-shirts walking around than there were pro-Bush. I actually think the campus is very apathetic on most issues. I would say that most of the students are economically conservative, but that has to be expected with the finanical background of most of the students. Don't worry - you won't be outnumbered by conservative republicans.

Northwestern is 80% liberal, folks. Illinois is a Democratic state.
Go Barack Obama!

The conservatives are in a minority. Do they have a strong presence on campus? I would say so. But does everyone listen to them? No.
